Keelson Gardens, part of the second phase of Waterside Places' Brentford Lock West scheme, has been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) inaugural Neave Brown Award for Housing.

The special award was set up to recognise the best new example of affordable housing in the UK and is named after architect Neave Brown.

In addition to having been shortlisted for the Neave Brown award, phase two of the scheme here has also recently secured a RIBA National Award, making this the development's sixth RIBA award and second national.

Brown was a socially motivated, modernist architect, best known for designing a series of celebrated London housing estates. In 2018, he was awarded the UK's highest honour for architecture, the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture, which is approved personally by Her Majesty The Queen.

Keelson Gardens provides 115 new homes, with 58 being available through shared ownership provided by Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing. Designed by architects Mae, the development has created new high-quality housing in a waterside setting along the banks of the Grand Union Canal.

The wider Brentford Lock West development has won no less than six RIBA awards.

James Stockdale, development manager at Waterside Places, said: “It's an honour to be shortlisted for this special award in its first year. At Brentford Lock West, we have delivered a number of different tenures to provide as much choice as possible to a range of customers.”

The winner will be announced at the RIBA Stirling Prize ceremony on Tuesday 8 October at The Roundhouse in London.

Waterside Places is a joint venture between Muse Developments and the Canal & River Trust.
