Former Deputy Prime Minister, and former Leader of the Liberal Democrat party,  Sir Nick Clegg has taken on a new role as Head of Facebook's Global Affairs and Communications team and will be starting work  on Monday with a week at the company's Menlo Park headquarters. It is understood that he and his family will move  to California with his family permanently in the new year.
        
        In an interview with The
        Guardian newspaper he said: "’m joining Facebook to build bridges between politics and tech". 
        
         
        
        
        Sir Nick Clegg has released the following statement: "Having spoken at length to Mark (
 Zuckerberg) and Sheryl (chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg) over the last few months, I have been struck by their recognition that the company is on a journey which brings new responsibilities not only to the users of Facebook's apps but to society at large. I hope I will be able to play a role in helping to navigate that journey".
        Sheryl Sandberg said in a Facebook post, that the company needed "new perspectives to help us though this time of change".
