Very pleasant lunch there today, ahead of my birthday on Wednesday. Busy for a Monday. The staff tell me that they are not, after all, closing for several months later this year but will be doing only a small refurbishment over several short closures.

Funnily enough I donated the difference in the cost of an overpriced SMART phone and purchased a basic phone. I figured that I didn't need it only wanted it and that the money would be more useful elsewhere to someone less fortunate than me.I don't have a lot of money but figure I am blessed compared to so many.

We've given away our cars Susan, but our children and kind neighbours drive us out quite often and its rather an awkward and out-of-the-way place to go in an evening(particularly if its raining).

Fair enough, Nigel, but there are all sorts of very expensive things people spend their money on which would be better used elsewhere. Imagine how many the cost of a new iPhone would feed. I wouldn't boycott one restaurant on those grounds.Gerry, we walked, although there is metered parking close by or you can park in Elm Grove CPZs during July, August and September. I thought you didn't have a car, anyway.

Didn't actually follow your Christmas complaints, Nigel, as I wouldn't dream of trying to go to a restaurant at Christmas time. Doesn't everyone hike their prices then?Yes but not to £95.00 a head which is why I started two Crisis at Christmas threads as that, undoubtedly lovely, lunch would cost the same as three square meals, a health check and a change of clothes for FOUR people via Crisis.

Doesn't everyone hike their prices then?Two courses for £17.95 at lunchtime, including bread and filtered water, less than 20 quid a head with service; we spent more than that for two courses & water at Bill's Diner a few weeks ago.

Happy birthday, still won't use the place though in protest at their Christmas menu pricing (see posts passim).
