Front page of Gazette -Labour propaganda?

Does the Gazette belong to the Labour Party or do they pay for a front page advert?Some Labour Party activists have accused  Conservative Councillors of writing propaganda when they post on thr local forums.Pot calling kettle black perhaps?

Yes and we are each free to vote for whoever we choose.  We can also vote differently in the local elections from the way that we vote in the national ones.

Well one can only hope that residents in the borough get out there and vote today, not much point in feeling that the elected representatives are not acting on behalf of their constituents if you fail to vote!Acton residents have many reasons to vote today, we have been largely ignored by the present incumbents over local issues such as The Oaks and Hanson's plant in Horn Lane causing high levels of pollution. Then what about street cleaning, another disaster thanks to Enterprise!Add to this the  charge for removing garden rubbish which was a weekly FREE service under the previous administration, now reduced to a fortnightly chargeable service.I am sure there are many more reasons to cast your vote and hope for a change at Ealing Town Hall.

The front page of the Ealing Gazette was bought for Labour by emergency funds from the central party as internal polling showed they were set to lose the election in the borough according to my source.They were tipped off by the Gazette that residents in the Southall area had purchase the slot to publish information about the way a cabal in the Labour party was controlling policy. The Gazette owed them  big time because Labour had put a huge amount of money their way from funds for a campaign to encourage recycling which was the biggest ever advertising campaign in the borough. The company that owned the Gazette has had to close a lot of its other papers but because of support from Labour the paper stays open. The paper doesn't cover Southall matters and residents had to pay to get issues of concern included in the paper. The Gazette is now Labour's in house paper for the borough.They have banned Council departments spending money in any other media including Asian newspapers and this helped to bring Sunrise Media to its knees. Other parts of London have thriving Asian local media because there Councils will spend money in papers that people read on the basis of whether it supports the party line.Labour's support is crumbling because the party local is run by a self-interested cabal. They will lose seats in Southall Broadway because of the injustices visited on Zahida Noori

The demise of the 'local paper' is sad, but inevitable due to the internet and the growth of neighbourhood social media imo.

Gerry, nowadays I don't really think that there are many newspapers who take a neutral stand when it comes to politics.Each has their own agenda and some go as far as to tell people how they should vote.I think we should just make our own minds up at the ballot box.

Yes Nigel, I noticed the blatant propaganda on the front of the Gazette, in fact I mentioned this on the ActonW3 forum.It's OK for one party to accuse the other party of propaganda providing they themselves refrain from this practice.What's good for the goose is good for the gander as they say.

A real loss. The Ealing Gazette and the Acton Gazette were brilliant local papers all through the 1970 and 1980s the quality of journalism and picture was often better than the offerings from the national, evening and local tv. Always well balanced and a great read.Like so many local papers they have been removed from the local area they serve, cut to the bone and have very low standards of journalism. It's all done by facebook twitter, the web and phone.Gone are the days when reporters turned up at almost any event.Very bad for democracy. Big loss for the local reader.

JeanJust took a look at a freebie copy of the Gazette that was delivered.The Labour advert is a paid for' 'wrapper' around the normal paper rather than an editorial - not that The Gazette do much of that anyway.Sad to see a once proud paper decline so quickly and badly.

There is only one use for the Ealing Gazette (a joke at 90p) it is the perfect size to line my food recycling bin.
