Can you spare me a few minutes to Adise me pleaze.?

As a result of what is happening around my home ,I am toying with the idea of setting up CCTV in the vulnerable areas on my land. Am  I allowed to do this, and where do I start to get things done and the costs involved roughly. Any relevance to this set up will be gratefully accepted. Thanks .

It has been a quiet day today Gerry. Philip mentioned a CCTv firm that did a very satisfactory  set up at his place and guess what? I have arranged to see them on Tuesday for a similar set up. Yes Gerry I have many good friends who raise my spirits, but I would hate to involve them and spell out the cause of my distress for fear of escalating their troubles. The Local Police are dealing with it and it is best that i leave it with them.I am keeping a low profile and taking in all the good Advice that i can get. Best Wishes

Hi Gerry,Yes, Almost everyone on my street are people who care and share my predicament and worries.My garden walls are meant to keep me safe and secluded from the rear of my location. The police have been notified and were very prompt and helpful.The trouble is that there are Cells of the groups, the kinds of which are have little or no respect for what is lawful and acknowledged in Society .Our town planning policies have made it easier and left it to become a problem that will be on-going.

Os, we're quite concerned about your worries. Do you have good neighbours or nearby family or friends? - they should be able and willing to help you if only with advice and reassurance. How about your local church? They're usually helpful.

Os, we have just been through this very same process. Our house in West Ealing was targeted twice by thieves in the space of 9 months, once during the night and once in broad daylight, whilst I was at home. Police cannot recommend companies, but the officer I spoke to 'referred' me to Octagon Security http://octagonsecurity.co.uk/ and they were very helpful. We now have a high level intruder alarm and CCTV cameras, which, if nothing else, provide a very good visible deterrent. You're more then welcome to come and have a chat and a look at what they did for us. Octagon will also be very helpful in providing advice as to what you can do to protect yourself and your property. Covert filming can be carried out by the police and council enforcers if there is a suspected breach of the law or other crime being committed.Trespass is a breach of law which can be enforced.  You can get some free legal advice on this from Age Concern and also the Citizens Advice Bureau..Your local councillors can also help on this. This is what they are there for. Councils have portable covert CCTV and so do the police but they are generally deployed on crime hotspots and fly tipping hotspots etc.The police should be your first port of call and if they don't give a hoot, let everyone on here know, as much has been said about community policing and how it is having a good effect.

No clue, but it's probably the "reasonable expectation of privacy" argument. I was proposing a software solution where neighbourhood watch groups could point their web cams at the street and my web site would allow you to flick between views when on holiday. They insisted I'd have to put up CCTV signs on lampposts so I abandoned the idea.

Note that if the CCTV is filming any PUBLIC area it becomes al ot trickier. You then need signs on the treet furniture etc etc. Had a long discussion with the Home Office about this...

Contact Age UK  at 0800 1696565.  They will be able to help with advice on cctv units and, hopefully, should be able to with the installation.

Four camera system for about £300 off-the-shelf e-bay/Screwfix. Note: most systems have the capability to record sound, however, the cameras are not sound capable. There are legal reasons for this. The installation costs are more on top of this amount.

Hi Gerry ,I was pleased to hear you are still active You always were a doer.  I have been troubled by frequent Trespass and Criminal damage by intrusion over my garden walls. I know the miscreants but I am powerless to do a thing about it in my present state of Health.I am also too scared to tell you the truth.    Perhaps CCTV recording would Help.Regards to you and the Young Lad I met who accompanied you, the last time you were active at a function at Ealing Vic/hall.

Os, if you have problems that worry you enough to consider installing CCTV then please contact the police.Their Crime Prevention advice is free and they will also have a list of approved CCTV contractors if you wish to go ahead with CCTV and from whom you can obtain quotes.I do hope that this helps you.
