Good news from John Lewis Partnership.

I've just read this year's Annual Report and Accounts and its makes excellent reading. It appears that operating profits, revenue, gross sales and other indicators are all up and steady. I didn't know that gererally speaking, 64'ish% comes from Waitrose and the rest from John Lewis. All established staff will receive 15% bonus - that's good news. I wonder why more British industry and commerce dont't follow JLP's proven and excellent business plan and philosophy?

This is a good new story indeed.It may interest you to learn that I work for a new employee led mutual set up in the same way as John Lewis. The employees are staff from the London Boroughs of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham. With all the public sector cuts we didn't want to sit and wait for the axe to fall so we set up our own company providing support services to schools,with the help of the Cabinet office. Patrick Lewis (from the board of John Lewis is the independent chair of our trustee board).As we all own the business we are all committed to it and all have a say in how it is run.It's early days for us (one year old) but so far so good.http://www.3bm.co.uk

I think you're correct Nigel and I share your seniments and experience of JLP and Waitrose. The staff's general demeanor and their committment to The Partnership is exemplary. Their product knowledge generally and willingness to help and serve are unquestionable. For example recently Witrose delivered a large weekly shop which we'd previously selected - it was raining heavily and the gentleman who delivered turned down the offer of help - on completion of the delivery, we offered him a tip - he smiled and politely refused saying it wasn't policy to accept.  That's service with a smile! 'nuff said.

Two words Gerry. Greed and shareholders.I love shopping at JLP and Waitrose, dealing with people who  have a share and an interest in the business is wonderful. You feel that your custom is valued unlike some shops where they appear to be 'doing you a favour' by letting you shop with them.
