Pembrokeshire (from where my wife's family hails) has never had a 'tradition' of anti-English sentiment, We visit every year and, you are right Gerry, the locals re unerringly pleasant  Looking forward to August when we visit again.

I served part of my Nat Service in Pembrokeshire and found the people exceptionally polite, helpful and friendly. In fact I still send Christmas greetings to a Pembrokeshire girl I used to date in the early 50s and to one family I befriended then.

Only ever had a problem with being a 'non-Welsh speaker' in Wales once.We were on holiday in a self-catering cottage and popped into the local shop to stock up on provisions for the stay. We were treated appallingly with a load of 'snide' comments (I speak a little Welsh) between the assistant and her 'mate'. So we took all of our shopping and a lot more that we didn't need to the checkout. Had the snidey assistant total it all up, told her, in Welsh, that she was bloody rude and walked out. You would have needed a block and tackle to lift her jaw from the floor. :-)

Some pubs have filthy lavatories, but thankfully most are 'customer friendly'. I avoid pubs of the former variety.I tend to go to pubs that seem friendly and warm. Those in the country and smaller towns are usually welcoming.

Hospitality, many pubs appear to have forgotten that they are in the hospitality industry and are seemingly run for the benefit of the licensee or brewery rather than the paying customer.Oh, and clean toilets!

From all accounts, the new Grosvenor seems OK. What factors make for a good 'local', apart from the beer being of perfect quality and well presented?

Had a swift Weird Beard in there on opening night as well. Huge improvement on the previous incarnation! This is my local and I will definitely be using on a more regular basis too. My only critique is that it does feel very 'gastro', and I'm not sure how well it will go down when I bring wet dog in, after a rainy evening stroll.

I'm going tonight.  Tried to get a table for food but none!  I think they are managing the number of covers so it makes sense for now.  I'll be on the vino so lets see how the bottles of white fare..

I went yesterday , very well finished inside ,I'd forgotten how large it was. Prices : Doombar £3.70 .Weird Beard £4.30 but it was5.5%. Big crowd considering it was basically word of mouth as far as I'm aware ,well impressed and I will be using on a regular basis.

Great news , a friend of mine uses one of Food and Fuel`s pubs in Crouch End - The Queens , going by what she says The Grosvenor should be a success.
