Nigel Brooks asked :I still fail to grasp why basic functionality such as in thread quoting, text emboldening and hot linking are crippled or were simply not included in this application....The problem with automatic quoting, as has alwaysapplied on Usenet, is that if posters don't learn/ agree to trim their posts then threads easily become confused. Not only in meaning but in respect of attributions, who said what, and in response to whom. Which can then cause needless arguments. Speaking only for myself I don't regard it as any great hardship to copy and paste from the text I'm replying to which is helpfully provided underneath the edit box. I don't contribute to any other web forums, but noneof the many that I've consulted when searching for information on various topics gave any indicationof having automatic quoting installed. As to text emboldening this is is open to misuse, being the online equivalent of green ink. Basically if an argument can't stand on its own merits displayed in simple lower case ASCII. then the chances are its probably not worth reading in the first place. The point about the poor editor is well made howeverthe fact remains that use of this forum is free.I very much doubt running local forums like this as part of local websites is a road to riches. To the site owners, I very much doubt that the provision of free forums across their sites adds very much to the income they'd generatefrom the sites alone. Similarly in maintainingan archive of posts going back at least four years. Gift horses and all that.michael adams...
