Times story on more TNT problems

An extract from today's issue of the Times...Residents have blamed TNT Post for missed hospital appointments and lost bills since it began deliveries in April 2012. Piles of letters have been found dumped in bushes in Manchester and by a reservoir in Brent, west London.TNT operates in London, Manchester and Liverpool, but hopes to cover at least 40 per cent of UK households within three years.It is not subject to the same strict regulations as Royal Mail, which has to deliver 93 per cent of first class letters on the next working day. Instead staff are paid according to how quickly they work.

It is true that Royal Mail is not without fault, but it is the contempt for their responsibilities that mark out TNT for condemnation. Not even the worst Royal Mail postman/postwoman would walk along a street throwing the mail over the front gates, as a TNT "postal operative" did in my street.

To be fair, I went out to deliver a letter that had been wrongly put through our door this week, pausing on the way to pick up a letter lying on the pavement and put that through the right door, both errors perpetrated by Royal Mail and not TNT.

Nick Wells, CEO, TNT Post UK was on BBC London saying that TNT are doing a good job, and trying to say that Royal Mail do most of the final delivery to the door.

Interesting, though, that it has taken newspapers such as the Times, the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard so long to run with this scandal. Could it just be that now Royal Mail has been sold off, big business is getting worried that TNTPost will undermine its investment? Surely not.

At least with putting all the post through one postbox in the street it has been delivered with a chance of being sorted out and redelivered.  Obviously not good enough though.Gerry, the trouble is you don't necessarily know what has been posted to you.

We don't have any problems with TNT, except occasionally they deliver to the wrong address and we have to re-deliver to a near neighbour and vice versa. Generally an OK service fron TNT.

No, as they have a licence which allows them to 'cheery pick' the profitable bulk mail without ever needing to offer a universal service.IMHO a disgrace,

TNTPost gets another serious blast in the press -- this time on page 3 of today's Evening Standard. Here are the opening paras:IT’S one way to speed up the mail round. Residents were astonished to find that an entire street’s letters were posted through the door of the first house in the road.Neighbours had to sort and deliver it to the right addresses, with inevitable delays to important documents.Other complaints laid at the door of TNT Post’s orange-clad staff include lost mail such as credit cards, hospital appointments and insurance details.

So I need to save my outgoing mail for a year or so?  Presumably that would need to change if they are to become a true competitor to Royal Mail.

By TNT yes. By TNT Post - not unless you have bulk mail and commit to a minimum quantity of 250 items per day.

Again slightly off topic but is it possible for a non-commercial organisation to send anything via TNT.  Is it cheaper?
