I was not joking about the 7th Century reference, it was in a yellow-jacketed book that is in the Local History Section, though I cannot remember the name of the book. The reference to the media moving in because of this is definitely a joke!I have done a quick search of the online National Archive and there is plenty of stuff there from the 13th Century onwards, and there is a reference to "Yhellynge" at the end of the 13th Century, thus:National Archiveshttp://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C9685827Reference:C 241/45/260Description:Debtor: Adam in Le Hale, of Ealing {Yhellynge} Middx.Creditor: William le Hurer, draper, and citizen of London [deceased].Amount: £13 3s. 4d.Before whom: Ralph de Sandwich, Warden of London; John de Bakewell, Clerk.First term: 29/09/1285Writ to: Sheriff of MiddxSent by: John le Blund, Mayor of London; John de Bakewell, Clerk.Note:William has executors.Date: 1285Held by:The National Archives, KewLegal status:Public RecordLanguage:Latin
