Success in Disposal  of Rubbish and Clean Streets. 

One often reads about how well the re-cycling of rubbish is being handled in the Borough,but why then is it not linked to the many complaints about Dirty Streets and rubbish scattered in the commercial areas ?

Ours works well too.  The good thing about numbering your bags is that if they aren't returned to the correct address you and your neighbours can look out for each other and sort them out - which doesn't happen otherwise - it becomes a free for all.The problems we see are when people are not using the food waste bin and separating recyclables.Recently we had rubbish spread across the road because of this.  Filling your black bag with unflattened cardboard boxes is a terrible waste of space and it won't then fit in the dustbin with the lid closed!  Separating out even just some of the recyclables - and flattening boxes makes a lot of difference.  It all depends on your individual buying habits what takes up most space.

Credit when credit's due. The refuse collecting each week seems to be working efficiently in our Walpole Ward - including the follow-up street cleaning.  The only fault is that the men do not return and replace the emptied green and white bags to the appropriate house, despite we've clearly numbered our bags - sometimes we have to get our bags from another nearby house - nothing's ever perfect unfortunately, but credit when its due.

The reports of clean street come from the Portfolio holder and officers who would not know a clean street if it came up and but them on the bottom as they seemingly rely on the reports from the contractor.Sadly, the truth is not as 'clean' as they would have the electorate believe with missed collections and the nonsensical sweeping of streets before the recycling trucks (who cause many of the problems) have visited.Couple this with the 'secretive' reduction in park cleansing and be grateful that we only have around six weeks more of this incompetence with which deal before the local elections.
