Suburbs, boring? Try midnight at the Ealing Shopping Centr, or outside the brothel in Greenford...What Huq fails to mention is that her first book was entitled: Beyond Subculture: Pop, Youth and Identity in a Postcolonial World and is about POP MUSIC AND POP MUSIC CULTURE.From reading it I think that I can see why she might find Ealing boring, concluding quote: "Perhaps rather than mourning its death, we should be celebrating pop’s all-pervasiveness, which demonstrates itspotency as an unparalleled popular cultural symbol heavily vested with meaning for old and young alike in an ageing world. In conclusion then, today’s youthmusical cultures are beyond strict territorially bonded units, beyond straight individualist analyses, beyond the classifying system of youth equating automatically with pop and above all, beyond subculture."It would be interesting to know how she would try and make the suburb of Ealing more interesting as a local MP: boom boxes on each street corner and ecstasy vending machines at bus stops? The book can be downloaded on: http://gen.lib.rus.ec./book/index.php?md5=76A49BDA83F10F11612CDF451556DC25&open=0
