No hugging please. We're British

I saw this in a headline today and wanted to share this with you all.I hadn't noticed before but they are correct. There has been an increase of everyone nowadays from politicians to celebrities to presenters to footballers to your local boss all hugging each other.What would you do if the bank manager or policeman for example gave you a hug?No thankyou, a handshake will do me fine but make sure your hands are clean.

I agree, hugging, kissing and the awful 'air kiss' to the sounds of 'muum-ahhh' tend to be embarrassing.  Some peoples rub noses or touch foreheads in greeting. That make me feel uneasy. That said, I do like the Japanese custom of a gentle and distant bow - its quite elegant. But each to their own I guess.

I'm with you lot. Kissing and hugging should be reserved should be reserved for people for whom you have genuine affection.

I sometimes think you're a bit of a curmudgeon Rhys ( rich coming from me I know) but this time I have some sympathy with your opinion. The hugging/kissing on both cheeks etc. by relative strangers is by far too showy and insincere imo. We used to be more reserved and I miss that because it allows us to be friendly whilst respecting the other person's space. They may not want to be pounced on and slobbered over and they also my think it rude to recoil from it.
