Abuse of the legal aid system

A millionare has been granted legal aid as reported in the evening standard today.The legal aid system was designed to give those who are poor an equal chance for justice. So why do we always hear about millionaires and councillors receiving legal aid.What is the govt going to do about it?How can someone receive legal aid when they clearly have assets which can be sold off.This is another case of where it is one law for the rich and one for the poor.

Yep.Being prosecuted is the ruin of many a person - whether innocent or guilty.It is outrageous.

I think there is something seriously wrong with a system which requires anyone to sell off their assets to fight, in court, accusations which may be entirely spurious. Everybody should have legal aid, with costs being reclaimed if and when they are convicted.
