Rounabout

The roundabout at the junction of Greenford Avenue and Uxbridge Road (Hanwell) is a total mess. 4 cars from 4 different directions - more like 1st one in. An ACCIDENT SPOT - IF EVER THERE WAS ONE. Crazy council plans  - yet again. look right, look straight then look up and pray. Amen

IIRC from the plans it's 'marooned' much as it is at the moment.

When or if they make Cherington Road Northbound, does anyone know what will happen to the clock tower?Will it be marooned on it's own tiny little island, or moved to where the underground loos once were?

I have used it four times a day every day since it opened.Shorter queues and as long as you anticipate that all other road users are idiots (like any roundabout) then it' a great improvement.

As a local I prefer the roundabout but recognise that there are dangers. I stopped at one zebra crossing there and a young lad was nervous about crossing. So there are obvious safety issues. But my thinking is that it could be down to the messy state it is currently in. However the right turn into church road has always had issues as people coming from the Southall direction often jumped the lights. One aspect is that generally the queues of traffic are a lot smaller than for the lights. But they need to sign it properly and get it completed. I know I might have the right of way but on mini-roundabouts I never assume that the oncoming traffic will stop when I am turning right. Down Boston Road that often happens there where people drive straight on. Clearer more obvious signage is key. also enforcement. But then do they ever prosecute buses?

The roundabout is a mess.  I was nearly killed by a bus driving straight into me yesterday when it was my right of way.  It is a complete free for all and I dread going on there at the moment.  Would have been better to leave it as traffic lights and just put a filter in turning right into Church Road.  No one is using it properly as it is.

As someone who was very opposed to the roundabout, I have to admit that it HAS worked. I come home from work and reach that part of the commute at around 6.30-40pm and the flow is definitely better.

Once the roadworks are completed believe me the traffic will flow much better. There will be a post construction visit which will take place in around two months time. I have, as readers of my earlier post will know, flagged up to the council the visibility issue of the pedestrian crossing when turning left into Church Road.I find this roundabout a lot easier to join and exit Uxbridge Road on a bike. Let's have more roundabouts across the borough. The bigger the better! Hanger Lane is my true favourite, especially going south to east. One of the true joys of riding a bicycle. What's that new Renault advert? The one that declutters the dashboard and then says something like "where you can feel the road on your skin"! That is the feeling I get going round Hanger Lane on a bike, and I don't even have to lash out on an expensive car to get that feeling. Brilliant!

The big problem with eastbound traffic is that the road is currently reduced to one lane at the moment. Hopefully, completion of the works and the flow reversal on Cherrington will make this a lot better. Southbound is going to be 'interesting' though.

I have found it ok so far and the traffic seems to flow ok. Yes the Americans don't do roundabouts. the only issue is that perhaps the traffic coming from Southall appears to have a big queue at time. maybe when the reverse of cherington avenue is done that will work ok.

Ron, reminds me of the attitude to the 'roundabout' on the main exit from Miami International Airport.It lasted a week as, despite all the signage the 'less than enlightened' locals used it as a giant speed hump and the sheer  number of accidents in the first week led to its closure.

"cars from 4 different directions"Just like most other roundabouts then!It will stay "a total mess" until the carriageway and pavement works are complete."look right, look straight then look up and pray"Preferably look right to see if you can enter safely, look straight ahead to see if your exit is clear, look left to make sure that no-one is trying to enter against your priority and then look right again just to check - just like any other roundabout.
