There are two Books which should be of interest to youwhich are available in the Central Library Ealing in the 1930s and 40s : Photos compiled by Margaret Gooding942.184 This is large format and is all photographs.The catalogue shows 4 copies 2 in reference and 2 in lendingWhile for the War period there's a book "Ealing at War"Dennis Upton942.184which is smaller format and has both text and photosThe catalogue shows the Central Reference Library as holding 9 copies, 8 reference and 1 loan stockmichael adams...

Fullers' pubs often seem to have period photos of the area they are in, framed and hung on the walls.  Just wonder whether they hold an archive open to the public?

Memories of the schools' folk dancing contests from one of those photos.All primary schools were invited to take part and my school (Oaklands) won the trophy for two years.I still remember our 'reward', it was a small  ice cream 'brick' in one of those square cones that you no longer see.Innocent, happy days.

I was studying the old photos of Walpole Park and it brought back pleasant memories of walking our children through the water gardens and the previous swings and round-about area. There were about 10 red gravel tennis courts at the southern end of Walpole Park - they're gone now - and one could get a pleasant afternoon tea and cakes in the pavilion(still there but locked up now) for about 2/6d for two people - and the courts were £1 for hire. Lovely photos.

Checking out "postcards Ealing" on eBay sometimesbrings up cards of locations that haven't featured in anyof the published "Ealing as it Was" "Ealing in the30's" Francis Frith etc type collections.Some of the dealers have got wise and display thecards at an oblique angle but others can be magnified by clicking on the image.Which can then be accidently saved if yourcat or toddler just happens to press the mousebutton accidentaly just as the cursor is hovering over the "save image" option.michael adams..

Interesting as they are my personal preference is for the street scenes where you can really grasp the changes that have gone on over the years.
