Any animal lovers who can help?

Three weeks on Saturday (on 8 March) there will be demonstrations across the EU against the treatment of dogs in Romania. The aim is to force our governments to put pressure on Romania to stop the cruelty and torture. I am organising the London protest with a friend. In case you don't know, a law was recently passed in Romania allowing for the 'eradication' of all stray dogs, of which there are hundreds of thousands. Dogs - well, dead dogs - are worth a lot of money in a system that is corrupt from the top down, and it's our (EU) money that is being used to line pockets and buy new 4x4s. Many of the general public in Romania have enthusiastically joined in with the 'eradication', and dogs are having their heads smashed in, their legs cut off, being deliberately run over and left to die in agony, being put in crates with a dozen others and dumped on a rubbish tip to starve to death ...The law allows for public shelters to keep the dogs for 14 days in case they are claimed - but because most of them will be killed on day 14 officials consider it a waste of money to give the dogs food or even water. After the 14 days, the dogs are not put down humanely - the money received to buy anaesthesia can be pocketed and the dogs have their heads kicked in, or smashed with a shovel, or they are injected with antifreeze or bleach. An agonizing death, but so much cheaper! Cheaper still, many of them are trapped by snowfall in the makeshift shelters - they freeze or suffocate. This is not an anti-Romanian rant. Because of the crisis I have met many wonderful Romanians who are appalled by what is being carried on in their name. But they need help. Can you help us raise funds to get the dogs out of the public shelters, come on our demonstrations, send blankets or maybe even foster or adopt a dog from Romania? I've met many 'Rommie rescues' and they are just lovely, normal dogs.If you want to find out more, try an internet search - but, beware, the photos are graphic and they will shock and haunt you. Or you can pm me, and I can tell you more and how you can help.Thank you for reading.
