Rose pruning now ?

Is this the right time of year to prune our roses?  We've a few climbers and ramblers and umpteen HT roses and they're all looking rather scraggy. Advice please. I've lost my Geoff Hamilton gardening books and the Internet is a bit vague and confusing on rose pruning.  Thanks.

You can prune roses anytime from October to the end of March a good heavy pruning will do no harm to a rose bush

Thanks Nigel - Percy Thrower used to say one shouldn't prune roses too early in case of the occasional Spring frosts.  What ever happened to Mr Thrower - he used to be my gardening guru.

Ordinarily Gerry I would say leave it until late March for fear of frost but it has been so mild that you might want to do it now.
