Restaurants in Northfields

Hi, all,I've just moved back to Northfields after having lived south of the river for the last ten years.  Delighted to be back and am reacquainting myself with the area.Can anyone recommend in particular any restaurants on Northfields Avenue?  Or give me advice on which are better to avoid?  Will probably visit most of them at some point anyway but wondered where everyone especially recommended.Thanks

It's a miracle most of these cafes survive IMO.Very few of them ever seem to be generating very much in the way of trade.

The propietors of Nell's Cafe may have changed since I used to frequent the cafe for the occasional indulgent breakfast - who knows - but their fry-ups used to be wonderful Samantha. I have the occasional breakfast in the Papillon Cafe(nearer Lammas Park), where I have their tasty Eggs Benedict and a double exoresso. Fine beginning to the day.

Thanks for reminding me Jim - I used to go to Nell's Cafe occasionally for a tasty fry-up consisting of rashers of back bacon, fried eggs, exquisite dollops of bubble'n squeak and black pudding plus two toasts, all accompanied with a large cuppa Red Label. Bliss in the mornings!

Although it's a cafe... any rating for Nells?I have enjoyed many meals (even salads) there...but especially their liver and bacon dish with vegetables.It's now run by a hard working Albanian family.

I recently went to a cafe on Northfields ave and had a slice of cake and tea. The cake tasted past its sell by date and off. When I tried to find out its ratings, nothing came up. Does anyone know what score it got.It is called Jasmines and is 115 Northfields ave.

Welcome back to sunny Ealing Christian. Northfield Ave has plenty of restaurant. My favourites are Maxim's(high end'ish Chinese) and Papaya(Sri Lankan), both at the junction Elers/Northfield Ave. An excellent cafe/restaurant is Papillon Cafe, at 147, Bronek's Park cafe at 149(tasty Polish dishes but mainly a fried b'fast place) and beyond the station there's a fairly good Tapas restaurant called Domingo's.  Oh I almost forgot - there's Monty's North Indian restaurant further north(beyond Richardson's).  Enjoy your return to Ealing.

I did a check on this a few weeks ago - see below:The FSA website has several of the restaurants on the Avenue  still awaiting inspection. Here are some establishments in the area we have used that are less than satisfactory:- Momento (in Northfields) - 1- India India(in Northfields) - 2-  The Coriander Leaf - 2-  Thai Kitchen at Duffys(in Northfields) - 1-  Zayka - 1-  Poco Loco - 1-  Haweli - 2-  New Fu On - 1-  Chicken Spot - 1-  Mumbai 2 Go - 2I do not recall any of them displaying their FSA rating.

Having had a food business you can't really get above 3 unless you jump through all of the paperwork hoops.  Below 3 means its dirty.  I would avoid 1/2s but 3s are fine.

Can someone tell me what Papaya's hygiene score is. There was nothing on the doors so I presumed they must have scored bad.I have noticed that more restaurants are now displaying their hygiene rating scores and will only eat in a place which has scored 4 or 5.

Welcome back.Great restaurants and Maxim's is as good as ever. Papaya (top of Elers Road) is a good Sri Lanka and The Terracotta is good. Blinding fish and chip shop (Andy's) at the top of Leighton Road as well.There are some variable hygiene standards however and it is worthwhile checking the 'Scores on the doors' rating system before you visit
