Ealing Today forum application.

Random log-offs.Unable to 'thread' messages properly.A search function that is next to useless.No pasting of 'live' links (including to threads on this forum).Inability to use bold, underline or italics for emphasis or to help other posters.Time for a change methinks.

Thankyou, Jim.  It's an honour to be here,(sobs)and a privilege to accept this prestigois award.(tears)  But first, I would like to thank, my mouse, NNet, Tim Berners-Lee, (bawls), and all my fans out there1)  Right click on the thread post, 2)  Then choose  -  This Frame  > Show Only This Frame3)  The url of that 'post'  will be in the browser address bar.4)  You can then use that url in a hyperlink, or simply cut & paste it.

Thanks Nigel re the Birthday.  I reckon it must be sometime during the Autumn of year 2001 ....having located that old thread (down the front page) entitled Hello Ealing.Did not this website evolve out of another Ealing website called Lammas Park or something? I recall it had plenty of old Ealing pictures.Fred: You've certainly grasped the Forum technology... a Forum PhD for you I'd say. Wish I could do those links!

Last year, I accidentally deleted a picture of a parakeet from my camera, but I knew I had once posted it on a forum thread.  I spent untold hours on Chiswickw4 forum search feature, but not a single word or combination of words gave a result.I never gave up though. Throughout the months, when ever I thought of a new key word, I was back on Chiswickw4 search engine, but I was seriously running out of ideas.  . . . . . . until . . . . I decided to try Actonw3 forum.  I entered the word  " parakeet "  needless to say, the thread with my long lost parakeet pic appeared straight away.I'd been searching the wrong forum for months :o(

Cheers Fred.I could include some HTML code (which is hit and miss) to post a link or add a text effect but I know no other site (even the free ones) that still expects posters to do this.It would be so helpful but of greater priority is a half-decent search function (i.e. one that actually works).

Thought it worth resurrecting this as the forum (seemingly with its original application) approaches its birthday.Forum software has moved on the ensuing years, it would be nice to think that we could at least play 'catch up'.

you raise another problem.Had it not worked there is no way f revisiting a post to edit it. I run two sites both based on WebWiz where you can set an edit parameter. The poster has up to a day (mine are set ten minutes) to go back and correct any typos or correct links.This stops the problems of multiple posts just to correct spelling and a limited edit time means that the 'I didn't say that' problem is avoided.Having to use HTML tags in 2014 on a public board is archaic.

I completely agree with this.I understand (from previous posts) that this forum uses HTML text formatting "tags" which is a fairly outdated method and certainly not user friendly.Previous links to websites with instructions seem not to work anymore but see this site: http://www.simplehtmlguide.com/text.php Since I can't tell whether this works before it is fully posted and I have never done it before, apologies if this is simply gobbledegook.

I run a website that uses phpBB forum software,free and very easy to install and use provided the server supports PHP. Perhaps the management could explore this?

I think you can do bold, italic etc but don't ask me how.
