Fireplaces

Hi. While we're doing up our kitchen, we also want to fit a fireplace in the dining area and I think we'll probably go for a gas coal fire and either a cast iron surround or a wood one. Has anyone fitted one in recent times? Can you recommend a decent local company? I'm aware of the one in Northfield Avenue and also the Chiswick Fireplace company but don't know what they're like - both in terms of price and quality.Advice/recommendations appreciated. Thanks

+1 for Glenthorne Road.We've used them a number of times over the last almost thirty years - though only for minor stuff - but they are very helpful.

No.  In our case, the Gas fitter condemned the flue as 'not drawing' enough. Firecraft suggested either a glass screen covering most of the fireplace (not good) or a special chimney pot.  It was whilst fitting the new pot that they discovered that the flue had been concreted probably when central heating was installed 30 odd years ago.  They only charged for the new pot and it works a treat now.

We recently used Firecraft in Northfield Avenue for new mantelpiece surround, gas flame basket and hearth.  They did an excellent job and even got the (blocked) flue and chimney sorted.
