"Lifts not escalators are the best option says Councillor"
I've just read the article on the front page and wondering if Councillor Mahfouz has ever been to our local airport....If he has, he will no doubt have marvelled at the many moving walkways and escalators that are routinely used to the flow of people with luggage / make better use of capacity - the same is true of most underground stations and other train stations around the world.Councillor Mahfouz seems convinced that lifts at Ealing Broadway are the best solution so will he now share the modelling data on which he has based his conclusions i.e.- passenger numbers?- passenger throughput per hour?- forecast numbers of passengers at peak times with luggage that would require a lift or escalator?- the cycle time for the lift option to go to street level to platform level and back, and the hourly capacity based on this figure?- annual forecast growth in passenger numbers over the expected lifespan of the station? If his previous efforts on the street cleaning contract are anything to go by, we'd be best off believing the exact opposite of what Councillor Mahfouz has told us and preparing for a new station at Ealing Broadway that continues to fail in the same area as the current one - poor accessibility for passengers with luggage and slow flow of passengers between platforms / street level.
