During WW2 1939 to 1945 was Ealing Common given over to allotments for growing vegetables and fruit? And were there underground shelters built for the public to hide during air bombing raids?

I don't know about Ealing Common but there's an old air raid shelter in Hanger Hill Park at the top alongside Hanger Lane. Its basically a U shaped grass covered mound and you can still see one of the brick emergency exists, now sealed of course. There surely must've been other shelters in the Ealing area too.
