DVLA already has all of our details.Well... apart from our email addresses that is.(they do already include helpful little updates on matters of import to them when they send out a new tax disc...  but then of course that service has just been cancelled!)

Unfortunately, there is currently no mechanism for updating the online version of the Highway Code unless Parliament agrees the changes.  Or at least, that's the way DfT interprets the law.  So even errors, like the failure to indicate that you MUST NOT stop at bus stops with wide yellow lines next to the kerb, cannot be tactically corrected."Ought to be the simplest thing in the world with modern technology."If only ...

Tony, Maybe you need to go to Specsavers! Good cyclists make better drivers. The Insitute of Advanced Motorists (oh alright then, I am a member) only recently produced research to highlight that if 80% of all drivers were asked to do a driving test the following day they would FAIL.IAM publishes two books. One is called "How to be a better driver" and the other is called "How to be a better cyclist". I strongly suggest that you read them both. If you read the book for drivers on driving, look at the section on Traffic Lights. It says "...always be aware of drivers running red lights, as this trait is increasingly common on today's crowded and stress - filled roads". ummmm....interesting that it has to be pointed out. Moreover, all those MANY drivers who do jump red lights will say and think that they are good drivers! Accidents waiting to happen, if you ask me.

Not everyone is as good as you James - most of us don't re-read the Highway Code after we've passed the driving test. I certainly didn't ever re-read it, but I've stopped driving and we've given our cars away, after sixty years of driving. Enough's enough.

The trouble is that the Highway Code is constantly updated and no one reads it after passing their test. If, like me, that was forty years ago, then there's no knowing what I don't know!

Highway code rule - 178"Motorists, including motorcyclists, MUST stop at the first white line reached if the lights are amber or red and should avoid blocking the way or encroaching on the marked area at other times, e.g. if the junction ahead is blocked. If your vehicle has proceeded over the first white line at the time that the signal goes red, you MUST stop at the second white line, even if your vehicle is in the marked area. "If drivers aren't aware of this law, what others aren't they aware of?

I was aware of this but it seems to me that a proper public information campaign should be mounted for it. It looks suspiciously like a way to get money off drivers who aren't aware that they're doing anything wrong.
