Mouse in the house

Grrrrr.  I've had mice a couple of times before but have always been successful at getting rid of them.  I've got a more persistent little b*gger this time round who is studiously avoiding all the traps I have laid.Does anyone have a recommendation for a pest control company?  I know we'll have to block up any obvious entry points but I think I may need some help in getting rid of this.Thanks for your help.

Mouse FC have announced the immediate retirement of their star striker who doesn't have a working neck any more.  Or any working parts, come to that.On the other hand, Inter Denbigh Road have a midfield general whose lack of speed is more than compensated for by her ability to use strategically peanut butter and a plastic mouse trap.

I know half of Ealing will have been waiting with bated breath to find out what is happening.  I have been victorious.I tried the Maxey Mars Bar method first of all but put too big a piece of chocolate on the Big Cheese neck breaker trap. The mouse came along, knocked off the chocolate from the trap and disappeared with it.  So I put a much smaller, lighter piece on. Same result.Then I turned to the Penny Peanut Butter method (patent pending) and checked the trap just before bed last night.  Wonderful!  One dead mouse, lying on his back.  I cackled like the old witch I am at heart and went to bed. He was disposed of this morning.Trap has been washed, dried, reloaded with some Whole Earth Crunchy Peanut Butter and replaced. I'll see if I have any more curious critters.Thanks so much for all the suggestions.  It has been freaking me out somewhat as no-one wants doubly incontinent vermin in their house but I have a suppressed immune system at the moment and definitely do not want to deal with a possibly disease-spreading animal.

Unfortunately the mice we had were as a result of proud cats catching them outside and bringing them in to show us and losing them.  They also catch rabbits and once brought a duck in - but could only get that through the first cat flap!

Always find a Mars bar works and the best thing is you can eat the remainder.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and recommendation of Mark Ryan.  I will give the peanut butter a try because two of the Big Cheese traps I have come already impregnated with something that smells delicious to mice but I have had the traps for some time and I wonder whether the smell has faded away. It can't last for ever so maybe some peanut butter will do the trick.  Can't hurt.I'll have a look for Mark Ryan's name.  Thanks Nigel and others.

We found that they couldn't resist peanut butter - in a traditional trap.  Just have to make sure you know where you've put it and that it is safe from inquisitive cats and little fingers.

Nigel and SusanThank you for the suggestion but I already have one of these and it's not working.  It's plugged right in next to where I think the mouse has access in my kitchen and I have found droppings right in front of it.  Mouse is also avoiding Big Cheese traps of two other kinds.Sigh.

I bought something similar when my cat died 7 years ago and have not been troubled by rodents. I think it may even deter insects.

Hi Alison.We tried all of the 'hole blocking' and traps - nothing worked until.....we bought a 'Big Cheese' mouse and rat repeller (Google 'Big Cheese Rat Repeller).Plug and play it uses the mains wiring to create a ;sonic barrier', Six months now and no sign of him/them.
