I agree with what you say about people never having been hungry. Food isn't valued by many the way that it should be.It is unusual to not eat leftovers - as life as far as many of us are concerned would be pretty miserable without cold lamb and mint jelly, bubble and squeak, fried potatoes, cold sausages and bread sauce, cold turkey and redcurrant jelly or stuffing sandwiches etc.The food waste bin is also for vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, fruit peelings, fish and meat bones - all the bits that you don't actually eat - as well as any scrapings off your plate (of which we rarely have any). Some small changes in the way that some food is stored can help make it last longer. Bread is one of the foods that is most often thrown out. Nowadays I always keep it in the fridge despite some recommendations in the past that it goes stale there quicker. It goes mouldy quicker in the bread bin! I don't mind stale - it can be toasted. I do mind mouldy. There is lots of info including storage and help with portion sizes here: www.lovefoodhatewaste.comI think the canny Scots are better than the English:http://www.zerowastescotland.org.uk/You don't have to agree with it all. I don't!It might just help you to find a solution for storing something that you have trouble with... or a new recipe.
