Nigel Brooks wroteFounded by Alfred Sayers in 1884 they have only moved yards along Ealing Broadway, from roughly where Barclays is now, to its current location opposite Christ the Saviour Church. This most 'recent' shop was built in 1906 and is now run by Afred Sayer's great grandsons Allan and David....Presumably this was the same Sayers family who founded and presumably had built the imposing Eldred Sayers corner Department Store which was subsequently taken over by Bentalls. There are probably some interesting family historiesthere which will never ever get written. The Sayers Family, The Bentalls Family, and others featuringin Ealing commercial life, The Rowses, The Sanders, the Lamertons etc. etc. Unfortunately the Internet seems to have come a few decades too late for anything to have been recorded about them.michael adams
