Ealing Broadway Station

It is about time the station was updated but why on earth are there no escalators planned? With extra passenger numbers escalators, if only to the main line and underground platforms, seem to be a no brainer. Understand that costs may be a problem if every platform had one.

If you ask me Cllr Bassam Mahfouz  wouldn’t  know his a*s! from his elbow. Heaven knows how he got where he is. Friends in high places or many friends in local places.

Interesting to see Cllr Bassam Mahfouz claiming a "victory" in convincing crossrail to fund two lifts instead of one to serve 6 main platforms.This rather overlooks the completely obvious point that if 2 lifts are required to meet current capacity, more than 2 lifts will be required from the outset to maintain capacity when 1 lift is out of service for maintenance. The "victory" rings hollow as it clearly doesn't meet future capacity needs or provide redundancy for current needs.

ie a travelator.  These are good because you can still use them when they are stopped and not working...  unlike lifts.

Having not seen the future plans for EB station. Would it not help putting a flat escalator similar to the one next to McDonalds? Mind you the one in the station would have to work.

Families live further apart from each other than they used to.  It is important that it is made easier for them to visit each other mobility-wise.Now if we were all to choose to go away for a family gathering at Christmas and didn't have a car - how easy would it be for each and all of us to travel where we wanted to go?  Think about how accessible it would be for EACH and ALL of your extended family. And all at once.It is interesting to use buggies as an example as younger people are I think more likely to attempt to use the system or expect to use it and the elderly more likely to give up - or expect it to not be accessible.  That has got to change. There is a problem with lifts.  When they don't work there are big problems for some people.  There are elderly people living in blocks of flats who sometimes find themselves marooned on an upstairs floor.  Replacing lifts is very costly and causes a lot of disruption.  We can't expect all our elderly to live in bungalows any more.There should be more to designing and providing disabled access than just sticking a lift in a corner. That doesn't mean don't do it.  It means do more.

And buggies, heavy luggage, bicycles and last but not least wheelchairs. Should a wheelchair user have to wait for a lift? A gentle ramp  would make life an awful lot easier for all.Ealing Broadway is the central station for London Borough of Ealing. It is used by many to get to Heathrow Airport and as an interchange for onward travel by bus and tube. It deserves better.

The number of steps in Ealing Broadway station between concourse and platform don't really justify escalators. By their very nature escalators are slower than stepsas is evidenced by the number of passengers choosingto climb on the left on the escalators at Tube stations.For a short run of steps a wide staircase is the best solution to prevent a bottleneck of passengersbuilding up on the concourse waiting to join the escalator.For passengers with serious mobility issues such aswheelchair users and those with cumbersome luggagelifts can be provided, as in such circumstances there is no better solution.Otherwise passengers who are find themselves unableto climb two flights of ten stairs should maybe consult their doctor about their condition. michael adams...
