Artist's impression of new Eal B'way station.

The new Ealing Broadway Station looks impressive. Glass-fronted, larger ticket hall, lifts from ticket hall to all platforms. I do hope there'll be a better and safer drop-off and pick-up facility for passengers in the front.

I hope it hasn't just been designed for commuters.  We want access for all.  We want our elderly parents to be able to use it when they come to stay with us.  They visit and bring suitcases.

Interesting reply, thanks for posting it.Does the pedestrianisation of the forecourt mean there will be ne access for vehicles I wonder? What d'ya think?

Crossrail replied:Thank you for your enquiry about Ealing Broadway station.  I am responding on behalf of both Crossrail and Network Rail recipients of your e-mail. As you have noted, Crossrail and Network Rail have worked with Ealing Council and First Great Western over the plans for the station.  We have also discussed the plans with local community representatives and have been grateful for their valuable inputs to our thinking.  The plans for Crossrail works to the station have now been submitted to the Council for their approval under the Crossrail Act and it is expected that the Council will consult with the public on these plans and they will be made available  publically by the Council.  Crossrail believes that these plans will provide very significant improvements at the station. The Plans include: •          Major changes to the front of the station, replacing the current dated façade with a new glass structure; •          A new entrance, twice the size of the existing one, leading to a significantly more spacious and brighter ticket hall which will contain a larger gateline; •          Remodeled access arrangements with lifts to make the station step-free from street level to all platforms; •          Remodeled waiting facilities at platform level; •          Platform extensions for the new high capacity Crossrail trains •          New canopies on platforms 1 and 2/3 •          New customer information screens and communication systems. In addition, the station forecourt will be pedestrianized. As a result of these developments, we believe the overall customer experience will be greatly improved. I hope this information is helpful. Precisely Sue - lifts are always breaking down too.As I said earlier I've written to all parties to voice my conern that the most important people, the users, are not being consulted here

No escalators, only lifts. And that despite the fact that passenger numbers entering/leaving the station and changing trains are forecast to increase dramatically over the next few years. How 20th century. They still seem to be designing suburban/regional stations as if they were used solely by commuters to Central London with nothing more than a newspaper and a briefcase or daypack.

There are a couple more architect's concept images on the Crossrail website which appear to show the station forecourt with bollards blocking off the South end.  Could not find any plans which should be more helpful.  Are they yet available to the public?

One clear ommission from the article is that Network Rail state that they've consulted with Ealing Council and First Great Western about the proposed plans - how about the daily users who have to cope with this out of date and unfit for purpose facility ? I've written to Crossrail, Network Rail and copied in a few MP's already in the hope that this is not all done without consulting those that matter!

Yes, exactly what I thought when I looked at the picture.If you are delivering a passenger plus suitcase or two to the station you want to be able to drop them off easily.  Hopefully you will be able to walk along the street too.  At present it can be quite difficult even walking to the station with a suitcase when people are piling out of the station or rushing to it.Commuters may use well-placed public transport more but travellers won't just be using taxis - they are a luxury to most people.

Hi Gerry,As a daily user, I hope that they forget about the architectual thrills and make it fit for purpose - something it clearly isn't at the moment.It's disorganized chaos there every morning and evening and cannot cope with the capacity. I've actually written to our MP's about this matter as I'm genuinely concerned that if there were a fire there, lives would be lost as the place is too small! They need to address this sooner rather than later...
