Lonely OAPs this Christmas.

What facilities are there in our borough for lonely seniors this Christmas? I'm sure some churches have organised Christmas parties and lunches - I was thinking of secular activities and the like.

You're correct Walter, and if I were you I wouldn't leave the house and enter into Ealing's now dystopian society, where crime and disorder is rampant on the lawless streets.

Age Uk is holding a Christmas lunch on Christmas Day at the William Hobbayne Centre St Dunstans Rd Hanwell .

Esther Rantzen has this week launched www.silverlink.org.uk.  Initially there were some trials but this is the real thing.0800 4 70 80 90.Recently we organised a 95th birthday party and invited all the residents of the other flats.  It was interesting as some of them had not seen each other for some time although they live in the same block and some friendships were renewed. It was very useful to have some friends who could transport some of the less mobile.  Lack of mobility can be very isolating as can a deterioration of sight and hearing.  The lack of accessible buildings despite a Disability Act is quite depressing.  We should speak up and do more about it - while we are able!

Hanwell Neighbourly Care will be running its regular Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday get-togethers and doubtless they will be have a Christmas theme to some of the meetings. Although they meet in church halls they are a secular organisation.
