Clayponds Hospital

I always thought that Clayponds Hospital was the "Jewel in the Crown" of West London healthcare. A purpose built facility. I stupidly thought this was what the purpose of the hospital reorganization was all about, bringing care into the community. Aren't we an ageing population? Wasn't this what Clayponds was designed to address?Everyone I know speaks very highly of the devoted staff and high quality care they received there. As a visitor I could park for free and found everyone including the patients very jolly. It never appeared in the Shaping a Healthier Future consultation. Now it seems strange staffing reorganisations are happening. Are staff leaving and then being asked back and then won't come back because they are cheesed off? Is is being demolished? Is it being sold to a private healthcare company? All GPs supporting Mark Spencer please answer. Don't all rush and jam the system. Be patient. One at a time please.

Clayponds will remain operational to the end of 2015. Ealing CCG does not support its retention. That is our doctors representing us. When you see your GP next tell them what you think about closing Clayponds. He/she is supposed to be in charge. Then follow it up.

"They do not get enough physiotherapy in hospital or enough practice walking to the toilet as there are not enough staff  to help with this."Precisely why facilities like Clayponds are vital in the rehabilitation of stroke/ geriatric orthopaedic patients where the Occupational and Physical therapists do an outstanding job.

I expect someone reckons it is cheaper to send people home.  Look at the Leonard Cheshire Foundation campaign against 15 min care slots.  Carers can have no training, are not paid for the time spent travelling between clients and are paid the minimum wage.There is a lot of talk about bed blockers but there are a lot of people sent home from hospital who are not fit and ready to be at home.They do not get enough physiotherapy in hospital or enough practice walking to the toilet as there are not enough staff  to help with this. They need to be taken home by the ambulance service because they are not fit and well enough to get into a car.Then they may need to be picked up again by the ambulance service because they have fallen over at home.Figures get manipulated because of targets (see Colchester General revelations earlier this month) and people are pushed between one budget area and another.Food can also be a problem in hospital.  Care is far too fragmented.

Strongly echoing your feeling about Clayponds - I spent eight weeks there last year and can't find a fault with the care, facilities and attitude of the staff there - it was(still is) the best place to re-habilitate after a life-threating stroke. They have four rooms for sole occupancy and for some unexplained reason I was fortunate enough to have one. The hospital was great in every way except the food was very poor - it wasn't until my final week there that I sussed out what the staff seemed to turned a blind eye to...one could have your visitors order a take-away and have it delivered to Clayponds! Shame they are thinking of closing Clayponds down.

I agree, Clayponds is an excellent facility. My father in law was convalescing there  recently and received top class care. It's actually a pleasant place to visit with very helpful staff and free of the hassles and stresses that usually accompany hospital visits.

Contemplating closing Clayponds is inexcusable.Both my late father and a number of older members of our congregation have received superb care there in a facility dedicated to getting (mainly older) people back 'on their feet' - literally.

I agree that it's altogether a really good community facililty. Both my parents have spent time there and I have visited as recently as this Summer. I suspect that it is being wound down. Magnolia ward already been closed. Jasmine remains (hope I have got that the right way round).
