why do men insist on spreading out their legs on tube

Today, sitting on the picadilly line, a man in his 60's insisted on having his legs spread out so that his legs were invading my space.I got my bag and shoved it so that he would move his leg.My annoyance is why do men sit like that having no consideration for fellow passengers.How they sit at home is not my concern but outside when the picadilly line is always so packed, we need some breathing space.How I hate the picadilly line which is always so packed with tourists and suitcases.

I try to avoid sitting next to men on the Tube for this reason. I am not saying women are perfect, some women do put their bags on seats or insist on reading their paper with both pages spread out, but men do tend to take up more space.The worst thing I've seen on the Tube recently was someone sniffing glue. The best thing was a man doing acrobatics on the poles.

There are some basic anatomical differences that can make sitting with one's legs firmly closed in the manner of the female of the species decidedly uncomfortable for any length of time.It is just possible that this might have escaped your attention.Maybe the gentleman concerned was particularly blessed in this department.

This gentleman has the right to sit comfortably on the tube. The fact that you highlight his age does suggest he needed to sit that way!However, if it were me and you shoved your bag onto me, I'd have thrown it out the door as they were closing!

I one plonked my very ample frame down on a large handbag that a woman refused to moved on a crowded train from Waterloo.She screamed at me and I simply thanked her for placing an additional cushion for a disabled traveller.Cue much laughter from all except one (I leave you to guess who) :-)

Insisting people help spread them out as well. How many legs are we talking about?  Where do you think these legs came from?  He might have been in the medical profession, but still, highly inconsiderate of him.

He could of course have had mobility issues or a need to sit with his legs in that position. I have to sit with my right leg forward by a significant way as I am unable to fold my right ankle fully.I am sure that he appreciated being 'shoved' with you bag.How about asking politely next time?
