Harris & Hoole

I see that a branch of this café chain has appeared in the Broadway. As it was only 9am and I'd had my breakfast, I could find no excuse to sample it but it looks very smart. Anyone been in?

Went there today and when they first opened - both times had excellent coffee, very nice food, smiley and pleasant service, possibly a little on the slow side.

Does it really matter if Tesco own 49%?  What effect does that have on enjoying your coffee?  I've been there a few times and the product and service is a cut above all the other highstreet chains.

Tesco's interest in the company is hardly a secret, having been widely reported, plus having them in their stores is a bit of a give-away too.

I'd like that as well Gerry rather than gangs of pissed 'yoofs' marauding through the streets because they can get 'tanked-up' and have no idea of enjoying alcohol responsibly.

Harris and Hoole has 18 high street sites and  5 attached to Tesco's stores, and intends to rapidly expand.  Tesco's owns a minimum of 49 per cent, so therefore it can hardly be deemed as a genuine Independent coffee shop.  Large companies are linking with smaller companies because they realise that this is the way forward, and they tend to keep their interest hidden.

I warm to the cafe culture of say France, where a neighbourhood cafe also serves alcohols, beers, something to eat as well as cooffee/tea and juices. Usually get a newspaper thrown in.

As if your typical "street drinker" is likely to buy booze in an upmarket coffee shop.  Weatherspoons maybe, the off licence more likely.

Glad to see H&H have brought more of the coffee culture to our high streets. I wish them success, but there seems to be a surfeit of coffeee outlets in ealing and there's a limit to the amount of coffee I can consume. I also like my tea too!
