Virgin Media - are you a customer?

Just had an email from Virgin Media, they are scrapping their current Internet Security and replacing it with what they are calling Super Security, but at a price!One has to register before the end of December, the first year is free (at a cost of £79.99) thereafter they will charge £7.50 every 3 months.Yet another way to make more money out of loyal customers!

Internet security is a bit like safe sex - the best security is to not get into the situation in the first place.I get along fine with a carefully setup router combined with the free Microsoft virus checker and have done for very many years.The single most important aspect of keeping yourself safe is care and discipline - *DON'T* click on things unless you are sure they are legit!!!  Simples.This worked even when the kids, who had internet connected computers before they could read, were in the house.Technology (in the form of "security" software) will only take you so far.  Constant vigilance is the answer - don't click on unknown links - especially in emails!(And delete all those dodgy emails that make it through your ISP's spam filters but are still unsolicited to avoid leaving them around where somebody (you :-) ) could accidentally click on them later.)Stick to this rigidly and you are unlikely to come to harm.

This is not a scam, Virgin Media intend to charge for internet security whereas it was included in our package before!For anyone else wuth Virgin Media perhaps the best thing to do is take their free offer for 1 year and then go somewhere else for security!

Or Jean you could use a combination of AVG Free 2014 and malwarebytes anti-malware programmes both of which are absolutely free.

I got the e-mail, £30 ayear for the award-winning package F-Secure SAFE, replacing something that is now free. The F-secure site - http://campaigns.f-secure.com/en_UK/sem/is/ls/index.html?ecid=4494&pcid=4494&gclid=COWA4Zf3w7oCFafMtAodd28AsAis offering internet security for £27.95 for a year.  Virgin Media rip off.
