Batten down t'hatches!

I hear there's gonna be an almighty stormy wind a blowing tonight and tomorrow. Remembering the last storm in 1987 - in the middle of the night, our then 4 or 5 year old daughter came into our bedroom and said meekly: "Mummy and Dad, there's a tree in my bedroom."  A tree in the street outside our house had fallen on to our front garden and a few branches were poking through our daughter's broken bedroom window. And poor old Mr Michael Fish hadn't bothered to let us know! Bah, another wretchedly misinformed expert!

Hiya Bernadette, wish I knew you wanted logs, 'cos we just had our 30ft Arcacia tree removed two weeks ago. Don't know if arcacia wood is any good for mushrooms though.

If the storm does arrive and brings down some Oak trees or if you know of any Oak trees that have recently fallen or had bits chopped off and need getting rid of, can you let me know as someone I know is after logs to grow mushrooms on.Oak seems to be the most favoured type, but Beech is a good second choice.  I think most hard woods are suitable though.

There wasn't a hurricane in 1987.I know people in the USA who lived through hurricanes. Houses blown away (OK, not hard in some parts of the USA) and trees blown OUT of the ground ending up miles away from where they were. We didn't have one, just a very strong storm, which is what Michael Fish predicted, he even warned us to batten down the hatches!I remember trying to ride my bike to work at 6am in the morning that morning (not on the pavement!) and getting blown over twice, turning back to get my dad to take me, but when I got to work it was shut cos the roof had lifted up.
