Cake please

I have to buy a birthday cake for a 50 th for about 40 people. Where is a good place to go? We like good rich chocolate cake but definitely not with icing. Something classy. Is Patisserie Valerie the only choice?

The chocolate cake in Magnolia Cafe on the high street, go in try a slice and then buy the whole thing!

Get a few smaller, lower-cost but high-quality cakes, cut them up and re-assemble them as a single large one on one of those silver foil covered cake boards (possibly in a square shape) then cover with butter or marzipan icing and then add some decoration and BIG lettering Happy Birthday on the top. Save yourself a fortune!

Papillon Coffee Shop on Northfields Avenue makes wonderful cakes on the premises.  I have ordered a number of cakes and have never been disappointed.

We usually order a nice cream cake from the Bakers in Ealing New Broadway, or Jas cakes in Hounslow. Jascakesonline.co.uk. The first one is not open on a Sunday. Neither delivers, but we had a minicab collect the cake while we ran the half marathon. Delicious.
