Driving to Wembley Stadium in rush hour Friday

Ok. I don't do this normally. I'm going to the England v Montenegro match tomorrow ( fri). Kicks off 8pm. Going from West Ealing near Argyle Rd. What is the most sensible way to go? I could drive and park at the pre pay car parks to the west of IKEA ( so come off n. circular). I could get with bus 83 or 297. Anyone tried driving that way in rush hour on a Friday night?

Hanwell to Gate B at Wembley Stadium. 25 minutes every time. Completely hassle free and no charges. Cycle parking at the ground is right next to the turnstile, but I now think they need to massively increase the number of stands as more and more people cotton on to the idea of getting to the ground by bike. It also happens to be the best mode of transport for getting away from the ground quickly when you see Cup Final defeats! This avoids getting caught up in the mayhem of opposing fans celebrating which can easily make it all the more heartbreaking!I speak from experience: I was there when Arsenal lost to Chelsea (FAC semi-final); Arsenal lost to Birmingham (Carling Cup Final); and Brentford missing out against  Yeovil (League 1 play-off final).

Yes, that's exactly what I did.. ! Would recommend. Friends went back via Wembley Park and it was very congested to get into the station. Wembley Central is further but a lot less people go there. The buses 83 and 297 back to the station were running and not too crowded. But of course you can walk 15-20 mins.

Too late for this time but drive to Acton Central - parking restrictions over by 1600 and none in East Churchfield Road.Overground to Willesden - about 5 minutes - then change for Wembley.Almost too hassle-free.

Ta Nigel...I seem to have a mental block about the number of that bus. That's twice over the last couple of years that  I have recommended it as the 85. Duh!

It'll be a lot easier than that multi-change train journey.  Assuming you know all the back routes to the A40 go up the Greenford Rd and turn right onto Whitton Ave.  I park on a road called Crossgate and then walk through the station.  Won't take you more than 30 mins drive unless there's a major issue which you can check before you leave.

Yes.. But getting to Sudbury town from West Ealing might be difficult at 17.30-6pm on a Friday. What about Ealing Broadway central line to Shepherd's Bush, then getting overground to Willesden Junction, then changing to Bakerloo. One stop to Wembley Central.. And walking of course to the stadium. At that time (6pm) I hope I can get in the overland as they run about every 10 mins or so.

I park next to Sudbury Town station and walk from there. It takes 20 mins. If you get the 92 and plan on doing the same back, be aware that after the game the buses are on detour and do not pick up from the stops near to the ground.

I drove to Wembley when we last played Montenegro (horrible game with Ashley Young falling down all the time for no reason).I managed to park in a car park in Union Road,  off Ealing Road, Alperton.  There was much less traffic than I expected but I'm not sure I'd have parked so easily if my passenger had not  had a blue (disabled) badge.The location is excellent and we were home in no time after the game - it's far enough away to escape from quickly before the traffic builds up.Sadly I don't know the cost or restrictions on the car park but Google Street view might help. On the other hand when I last saw Brentford at Wembley the 297 was fine.  The stadium wasn't anywhere near full but as I am fairly mobile I thought I could always get off the bus and walk.If you're worried about it, the bus is probably best.

Yes 297 is a good one but also note that when it gets closer to Wembley it becomes quicker to walk. been there for the rugby league, springsteen and the wall and Wembley was chocker all 3 events

Be aware that there are standard diversions affecting some bus routes on match days, not easy to do with trains. Consult http://www.tfl.gov.uk

Make it earlier, then, if any problems, you don't have to rush. More time to enjoy the ludicrously overpriced Wembley 'catering'.

Agree with Bud, take the bus.Have you seen the prices for parking around Wembley on match days? Plus, it takes ages to get your car away from the place.

I live near you and would go for the bus - 297 will get you near enough or 92 (from Greenford Broadway) even nearer. Both routes will be slow so allow plenty of time.

By train.It will take you hours to get there and to leave.Get tube to Wembley or Alperton and save yourself lots of trouble!
