magnum records - reliant garage northfields ave

does anyone remember magnum records back in the 80s it had all the arcade machine at the back of the store and then further down the road was a ice cream shop on the corner which had arcade machines in it also other shopsbmx cycle shoppound store(yes im the 80s) next to chinese takeawaybudgenscoombes bakershole in the wall fruit and vegfishmongercavesindian fabric shopmarsh sportsmayfield newsagentbarries newsagenttexan resturant with those saloon doorspolish deli corner of elers roadbarclays bankseveral clothing stores mainly womensrobin reliant showroom on the cornerjimmys hairdressersnatwest bankand loads more they are all in my book and i can still remember the inside of all of them

regarding central grill this is the full true story!!!The man who owed it was from russian my mom and dad where from poland and were very close friends to mr krinenan and his polish young wife they where very nice but closed people i can remember going to central grill when i was about 10 years old  and eating in there the food was very good indeed typical english food burger grill and chips etc my parents were very good friends with them and i remember playing in the back garden the male owner died in 1984 and his wife kept the grill open for a few years but she went a bit mental and she closed the bar down around 1986 they were very rich people and the old man was from a rich oil family in russia he was about 5ft 10 and skinny but loved kids and always gave me presents as my dad done all the building work for him my dad was called nick banaszynski and done loads of work for people around the ealing area she still lives there  and is a bit bitter due to her husband passing away but i have fond memories and them both this is the full true story of them both

Magnum Records and the Reliant garage were both before my time, but can anyone confirm the definitive story about the long-defunct Central London Group Grill Bar on the corner of Windermere Road and Northfield Avenue?  Having heard several rumours I would live to know its true history.

Yes Gerry Wells wireless museum is certainly worth a visit. Expected my visit would be for a hour or so, left about 5 hours later. Tour stops every hour for tea and biscuits.

Tony: That's intersting. Jackie Goodwin's Shop near the Station.I remember Goodwin playing for the Bees in the early 1950sand in this picture he is far left on the front row. I recall that he had,sadly, a large blood mark on his face.Spot Jimmy Hill?

Have a look around here for half an hour!http://www.bvwtm.org.uk/If you were to visit every shop and pub in Northfield Avenue..it's quite likely that some will have an old picture of their premises on the office wall. "This is what this place was like once!"Also try the Reference Library..local history studies... they are probably safekeeping a wealth of pictures!

Then there was Ruperts the wireless shop...where the Mill is today.Ruperts was special. We don't see many of those atmospheric old cluttered shops these day..which were such a joy to discover. "I'll have that radio" I said and took home a 1950s Bush Radio (made in Power Road, Chiswick?) and which has that lovely humm you get with old radios.Ruperts later introduced me to the Gerald Wells Wireless Museum in Dulwich. Now that's worth searching for on Google.

"Thanks for activating a buried and distant memory from my head Tony!"  Phew Jim! thank goodness someone else remembers that,you've no idea how many times I went through the alphabet to come up with the name "Witchers".   Yes you're right they did become Renault dealers,I can't remember it ever being a Reliant dealer though.  How about Jackie Goodwins (Brentford FC) sport shop,near the station?

I bought my first ever 45 in Magnums.A few of my mates were part of "Magnum Force Soul Posse" that used to go to the Soul Weekenders etc.It was a great shop -- Vinylmania plugged a gap further down towards the station a good few years later.Record shops now all but a dead breed

Jimmy's Hairdressing was on the hill approaching Northfieds station (same side of road W13 side of station). Anyone remember Teds's Café in the same parade, still there in the 1970s. The Pound Shop you refer to was "Northfields Discount Store" (or "the Cheap Shop" as everyone called it). Budgens took the place of Williams Brothers "Direct Supply" shop, a chain that had a butchers with it's own shop front next door. Caves and Mayfields to me seem recent closures, but probably dies at least 20 years or more back. Also "Charlie Chan's" fish and chip shop, next to the junk shop with the skull in the window. Express Dairy Shop, and not a fried chicken shop in sight!

Witchers?I recall my employer buying me a new Renault 12 estate car from Witchers back in 1971/72..and their yellow "Renault" facia board is clearly in my mind.Thanks for activating a buried and distant memory from my head Tony!

The only car shop/garage I can remember thereabouts was Witchers VW Beetle specialists in the 60s/70s/80s,maybe the Reliants came later.

the reliant garage / showroom was on the corner of leybourne ave the show room had big white folding doors to get the cars in and out and the garage was at the back hope it jogs your memory

Where was the Reliant garage?I can only think that it was by the SAAB garage but memory fades.
