The fighters union have voted to strike over pensions. 18,277 for 5166 against. Is it right to risk lives and property for a few pounds.

It's not a few pounds. It could be up to 30% of a firefighter's final pension. They have been told that they will not be able to get a full pension until age 60, it used to be after 55. Their contributions also rise for a smaller pension five years later and that is conditional on maintaining full fitness. How many will pass the fitness test at age 60?The 'final salary' scheme was closed to new firefighters in 2006.Remember these are the people who save lives and property and yet who are paid just over half the salary of a tube driver!!! Don't see the government taking them on do you?I for one certainly do not want a fire engine full of knackered 60-year-olds out on a 'shout' due to this government's single-minded policy of hitting the public sector first and ignoring the tax-dodging corporations.I am a rather angry life-long conservative voter who firmly believes that 'Dave and the Boys' have lost the plot.
