Assyrian House - Temple Road.... Planning Application?

Anybody any idea or heard any whispers on the status of this?I couldn't find previous threads on this from a couple of months agoI've inquired a few times direct to EPD with no joy and the Planning Portal under PP/2013/1087 still states "Pending"Maybe if a local Councillor had a Pre-Planning Application meeting it'd already be over the line?!?!?!?The silence and delay make me nervous that this going to suddenly be waved through and yet another over-developed blot be forced on a residential area with noise, disruption & aggro for all who live local. I couldn't of objected any stronger to this and feel it will be a nightmare if it goes ahead in any way, shape or form.Any updates most welcome

As I write this (Sunday morning) I'm looking out a damp and dreary window and the streets around Temple Road have become completely packed with poorly parked vehicles.Why?There's a function on at The Assyrian Temple - thats why.So despite feeling this application will be railroaded through by the council and their cronies I've logged onto the planning portal and objected strongly again under PP/2013/4082.I'd ask anyone who feels likewise to ensure they object That is all

Reading the "new" application it seems the main objection mustve been parking disruption as they have included some laughable thesis on this.I've not read the whole report yet so God knows how they intend to cover the noise and disruption element and people coming and going.I have some free time tomorrow so I' going to read it more thoroughly and hopefully re-invigorate myself and get my "NIMBY" head on!

Thank you Councillor Taylor.As an aside there are two things about the assiryan development that worry me. The first is the groups of people that will be using the center when it is selfsupporting and rented out. I remember a few years ago there was a night club there a couple of nights a week There was an influx of very unpleasant people at night who had nothing to do with the assiryan church. It got very unpleasant in the area.The second thing is the parking. Parking for five hundred people attending an event does not exist anywhere near. If the assiryan center was to put in underground parking for fifty cars under the center I would look on it with a more positive outlook. I am also worried by the state of the building at the moment. It has been butchered beyond recognition. It was built as a victorian church hall and now that the windows are bricked up it looks more like a bomb shelter. The cuppola on the roof has fallen apart and the fences are dangerous.Is there any way that the building could be listed to keep what is left of the architecture and fix the cuppola?Keith.

Keith,I have myself tackled the undertakers about parking on the pavement.  They are called Henry Paul Funeral Directors at 141 South Ealing Road.  If they don't want their customers googling disobliging postings about them they need to stop.  It is not acceptable.  They are simply not entitled to put pedestrians at risk.  Please go in and tell them that it is not on.  I will tackle them again.

The funeral parlour across the south ealing road from the paintshop and the assiryan centre has taken to parking its hearses and funeral cars up on the pavement outside the shop. There was a big cream car parked outside it this morning.Where can I get some "hub" nailed boots like yours, Mr. Wrobleski?

NO! Please don't give up. At the very least, resubmit your original complaint just changing the planning reference number and making sure that the address is clearly 1a Temple Road (not South Ealing Road as some previous paperwork said). I think that this is what they are trying to do is to wear us down by repeatedly submitting and withdrawing the application. As the whole thing is clearly being ignored by Ealing Council Planning (guidelines clearly state that official correspondance must be attributed to, or signed by a responsible Council Officer and "Planning Team East" in big bold italic letters does not conform to that).I am contemplating some direct action: I am going to get my hub-nailed winter snow shoes out and every time one of the illegal late night boozing gamblers (for that is what the Assyrian Centre is really about at nights - unlicensed betting - why do you think they bricked the windows up? and why do you think they want a D2 (...casino...) licence for? ) parks in the middle of the pavement I shall walk along the "pavement" from tip to rear of the car in my boots as Ealing Council seems to be completely unable to police the parking and deliveries there judging by the broken pavement: this morning I witnessed a white van unloading what appeared to be a dismantled old kitchen at the side of the paint shop (across the road from the Assyrian Centre) which seems to be acting as the "yard" for a refurbishment company or bunch of decorators.

Thanks for confirming this -- I checked the Planning Portal the other day and there was no sign of anything.Do I have the energy left to object? You just get the feeling this is going to go through by stealth and become another blot on the area.Maybe it's time for me to get the For Sale board up....

Residents and businesses in neighbouring postcodes in South Ealing have today (Saturday) received a letter dated 27th September 2013 notifying them that a planning application has been submitted for the Assyrian Centre (Now 1A Temple Road Ealing W5 4SL and not the South Ealing Road anymore). The proposal is for a: "Part first floor/ part two storey side and rear extensions and first floor rear extensions in the front/rear roofslopes to the floor area by 474sq metres, to accommodate assembly and leisure (D2) including a restaurant, banquet hall, club room and library". We have 21 days to respond in writing.Interestingly, the letter is (most unprofessionally) unsigned by a council officer, instead it is branded: "Yours sincerely, Planning East Team Planning Services. Does this mean there is no planning officer left in the Planning East Team following a typical Ealing Planning Department pogrom/exodus/flexing of muscles by the Teflon(r)-coated planning department management, or are the planning officers too afraid to put their names to official correspondance anymore?KW

Colin,Sorry for the belated response.  I only got the answer I asked for on 16th August when I chased up today.  I have to say the planning service is consistently disappointing.  Anyway the latest view on this from the planning officers is:"The current status is that the above application was withdrawn on the 12th September 2013. An amended application was submitted via the Planning Portal on the 17th September 2013 and this is currently being processed.  Consultation and neighbour notification will follow as soon as registration is complete."So back to square 1.  Wait to go through the process from scratch.

Phil -- the trail seems to be cold on this?There's no comfort in that - in fact it concerns me!!The facility seems to have strangely suddenly become "used" more than usual. This summer there have been a couple of functions of a reasonable size. One a few weeks back was quite noisy and I was tempted to pop back to this after I passed on my way home armed with video camera. My point being if the current function hall with it's reduced capacity could cause that level of noise then once it's expanded I can only imagine the chaos!Ealing Planning Portal still states "Pending".Space watched with interest and concern

This is going the wrong way. If I were a resident and unhappy about a planning application, my first port of call would be my ward councillors. That's what they are there for.I would expect them to have a hotline to various officers and get answers and facts and if it was an issue of contention or affecting local residents for those councillors to input an objection by voting against or briefing the members of the committee. So at the very least those who are voting are fully aware of the issues and not just what they may be fed by the planning officers.This is different to senior councillors being collared by other politicians to fix up meetings and bend procedures for other politicians or people with a bit of wealth and power to throw about.Which is why any sort of irregularity and corruption needs to be very heavily dealt with.

I am Councillor Phil Taylor, a Northfield councillor.  This facility is in my ward.  Up until recently there was also a planning officer called Phil Taylor.  Confusing but not sinister!

Colin,I guess that the developer got such bad feedback they have gone off to think again.  In any case this has had objections so will be considered by the full planning committee and not under delegated powers. I will check for sure.

Your Concerns are shared by many people.======================================I am aware that the Control department have granted powers  of approval in the Scheme of"Delegated Powers" The scheme is the Inner Sanctuary of the Planning Officer where he/she can seriously corrupt planning applications and then approve or refuse them at their discretion.Immaterial if the project surpasses the scheme the Planning Officer can still misdirect bypassing up their misrepresented reports  to the planning Committee and push the members of the committee in the planning officers direction. Enough said.The ordinary person not having the funds to pursue unjust matters in the Civil COURTS brought against such Corrupt decisions that are perpetuated has to put up or shut, up with Planning Crime  that is blarringly rampant and uncontrolled within the Local Authorities or atleast some of them .I leave the members of the forum to comment if they agree why there is so much going on that is questionable in our own borough.

The proposed enlargement of the Assyrian building is of real concern - its difficult to get any meaningful answers from the Council's Planning Dept.  If I may suggest, better to ask your local Councillor what is happening(there should be regular councillor's surgeries in your area). Do keep this forum informed if you get any more info please.
