Drain cleared, recommendation?

Hi - any local recommendations for a company that would come and clear a blocked drain please?

There are lots of things that should not be put down drains but are. Did you know that there are products which are labelled "flushable" which block drains?  There does not seem to be any agreement between the drainage companies and the product makers on this. Thames Water say only wee, poo and toilet paper should be flushed.Fat/oil is a big problem - which is why there is often a free oil collection from businesses.  (Businesses by law should have proper waste contracts in place.)Thames Water were privatised and I think had to be leant on to put more money into looking after the maintenance of their infrastructure.Personally I think it would be great if sink waste disposal units were installed in all flats so that they had a way of getting rid of food waste.  The down side here is that people might not learn how to waste less and save themselves money.  It would make their bins less messy and smelly.http://www.thameswater.co.uk/help-and-advice/9137.htm

Thanks Nigel - that's it and it is a shared drain.The problem we were always having was with a neigbour at the end who put soiled nappies and ghee through the system and constantly blocked it. Even when faced with the evidence she denied it. Sill trying to recoup money I've previously paid out from her landlord

Hi,We live at the end of a terrace of 4 properties that were built around 1930's and for years we had issues that the drains were getting blocked and were getting expensive to clear each time (the hatches are on our property). I was talking to a colleague at work a few years back who told me that he'd had an identical experience and discovered that Thames Water had an obligation to clear the drains, free of charge, if your property was built within a certain period. Well, we tested this, called the number up and ever since, we have enjoyed an excellent service, free of charge. The number we call is 0845 9200 800. I'm a bit tight for time but if I remember later, I'll serch for the page on the TW website that provides the information...

Believe it or not British Gas are competitive.Also check you home insurance for cover for such events.
