Cafe Gold now becomes The Clock Tower Cafe!

I know some discussion has taken place on the Forum before so I may be repeating what has already been posted but I popped in to the newly opened (Tuesday) Clock Tower Cafe today and had a lovely cappuccino. It's nicely done out and was quite busy. Some interesting food items for sale too. The brunch menu looked good and reasonably priced so I'll be popping there next weekend to sample the eggs benedict!  Hopefully another welcome addition to Hanwell.

Having said this café is open some eves, the owner has decided not to open eves for the last few weeks, concentrating on getting the daytime business going.  She hopes to resume eves this month but seems to be posting herself on Facebook rather than anything much more obvious locally. (I know this because my son has a few hours working there this summer before uni - I hope he has been one of the friendly staff of which someone spoke!)There was talk of launching the eves with a Paella night.  I'll keep you posted if I find out.  The tapas I mentioned were not exactly Spanish and were served on the tripledecker cake stand.  They were also serving a sharing platter of bread and cheese or hams.  I expect this is what will continue when she reopens.  I just hope she lets people know about it.  The idea is to have a place for people to meet up and have a drink and snack in somewhere more enjoyable than a local bar.

After a walk up the canal, the husband and I went there this morning and were very pleased by what they've done with it. The cappuccino was just right and the banana brownie unusual. Nice atmosphere, with books lying around for patrons to read, as well as papers.

Big Bites is still good but I find that you have to ask them to cook the bacon "softly" as they turn it into a tasteless dried out piece of shoe leather if left to their own devices.Just my opinion of course.  maybe most of their customers prefer their bacon like that.I go there several Sunday mornings a month generally.

It isn't  Spanish joint, the owner is English. I suspect they are just trying different things out! I was talking to the owner about the signage, the person who is doing it is on holiday (must be a long one!)

'Also I see that the shop on the corner of Uxbridge Road and Boston Rd that used to be called Microcentre has opened again.  I can't really make out precisely what it sells - does anyone know?'Phil, I think it's a computer repair shop.Anyone know if the Clock Tower Cafe is going to have a sign painted? I like a bit of old fashioned sign writing.

My daughter who teaches at St.Ann's, just around the corner from the Clock Tower Café really rates it. Not just for the food but for the warmth of the welcome and the friendliness of the staff. Let's hope that it has the longevity of Carter's Stores which stood on the site for decades.

I didn't know that the new Clock Tower cafe is a Spanish joint. We like tapas and paellas so we'll make an effort and give it a visit soon.  And the wines reasonable too - that's good news.

Following comments on the forum, I have now been to this cafe twice - and I really like it.Unusually for the area, it has plenty of space inside and the owner makes time for a chat with most of her customers.Cakes and drinks are both excellent.Almost opposite is the Big Bites Cafe.  I used to go there quite often for a bacon roll - it's also a huge space.  Does anyone know if it's still good?  I stopped going there because the bacon was less tasty than at the Broken Gate cafe I drive past on Greenford Road by the David Lloyd centre.  Mmmm.Also I see that the shop on the corner of Uxbridge Road and Boston Rd that used to be called Microcentre has opened again.  I can't really make out precisely what it sells - does anyone know?Thanks

Forgot to say also open Fri/Sat eves.  I went last Thurs (they gave it a try) and had wine cheaper than Viaduct pub nearby.  Free water as we sat and bowl of pistachio nuts, nice candles and very tasty, albeit small portioned tapas.Polite staff.  We should support this new café.

Lovely grub - the perfect weekend breakfast - eegs Benedict, fresh orange juice followed by a double espresso and a glass of cold water - oh and the morning papers too. Lovely grub.
