When Will An Englishman Win Wimbledon?

Yet again a foreigner won Wimbledon again this year.So the man from Stockport, Cheshire is still the last Englishman to win Wimbledon 77 years ago.

Does the fact that a Scot learns his game in Scotland and has to go to Portugal to master his talent whilst English talent fails and fails again not indicate that there is something wrong with the LTA?I visited Wimbledon's Tennis centre last winter. Full of promising kids, nice kids and awesome players. But the car park said it all.Every single vehicle was a Range rover or a Top of the range Mercedes and all with personalised number plates.What I wonder of the untapped talent knocking a ball over a table used as a net at Gunnersburry parks 20 world class tennis courts?

What about an English woman? It's been a while since Virginia Wade won and she seems to have been slightly forgotten in all the Murray mania.

I've played tennis competitively since the age of 13.I can see no obvious English male tennis candidates to take over from Fred Perry and win Wimbledon any time soon.

Pat, Fred Perry used to be a member of my tennis club in Pitshanger - its called The Brenthham Club in Meadvale Road W5. He was a young man then. At present, there's a plaque on our clubhouse of Fred Perry and one of our restaurants/coffee bars is called the Fred Perry cafe. The club is open to the public for meals, functions etc.

Eric, your varied views are all very interesting, but I'm not too sure what the main thrust of your comments are. Regarding your initial simple question, no one knows the answer - it could be that the next Englishman to win Wimbledon is imminent.

The Scots want independence apparently. Alex Salmon - SNP boss -  sitting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon waved a huge Scottish flag when Murray won. Let's also face facts - Murray's tennis skills were not honed here in England by the Lawn Tennis Association but at a private tennis school in Barcelona. Some Welsh folks want independence and some Northern Irish want their land to be part of Eire.According to Nigel Farrage, a lot of the English want England to be independent of mainland Europe.I accept that England is mongrel 'race' but it's the mongrel race I am part of.

Fred Perry did live in Ealing for some time and there is a plaque on his home in Pitshanger.
