Help - advice and guidance needed.

This weekend, my family and us(there will be six in total) have asked me to take 'em for a Sri Lankan meal.  So what, I hear you ask.  Well, none of us know anything about Sri Lankan/South Indian food. We're gonna go to a quite famous Sri Lankan restaurant in Ealing. Please advise me as to what dishes to ask for - we've eatent in many Indian restaurants and vaguely know our way around the standard and usual Indian dishes - but never have we been for a Sri Lankan meal- I've googled the menu and I've never heard of most of the dishes I don't want to appear to be anymore of a prat than I am when I ask the waiter, so please would some kind soul give me a guide please? What dishes should I order(we like fairly hot curries). Thanks.

I forgot to have added, there was good air-con in the restaurant, which was very pleasant in last evening's heat -a really fine evening all round.

Thanks guys for the good advice. Yes we went to Papaya in Northfield Ave, at the junction with Elers Road and had an excellent and interestingly different dinner party - yes we ordered Masala Dosai and several starters and later some interesting mains which we all shared. Its a truly new experience with curry style food - very different to the usual Indian food - they serve draught Cobra lager and other Indian beers - we're gonna go again soon - its briliant. Thanks again.

If you are going to Papaya they will cook any dish to the 'strength' that you want. Madras is about the hottest that they do although you can get the 'devilled' dishes with loads of hot pepper. Try the fish specials they are lovely as are the vegetables. A lot of coconut is used so, if you don't like it ask them to reduce the amount.Have a lovely evening Gerry.

Hi GerryIf you are going to Papaya on Northfields Ave it's one of my favourite restaurants. I highly recommend the mini marsala dosai to start - gorgeous! For mains i think it's good to try a variety of dishes and share. Their dhal spinach is great and you should also get the string hopper khotu. I prefer the curries to the devilled dishes but thats just personal taste. They are very good at asking how spicy you want to go and will adjust the dishes accordingly. The Lion lager is also very tasty!If it's not Papaya then please ignore all the above
