Ealing Filmworks

I did a write up on the front page ......but if you couldn't get to the recent public display of what's planned for the cinema site you can still give your opinions. The tram was the most bonkers idea ever. A trolley bus network would have been a lot better but as the tram had so few stops it would still require an intensive bus service to facilitate the gaps and all crammed into the same very limited road space and it still only serves one direction, The North and South of the Uxbridge road are densely populated areas and also need better North South services.Would be far better to extend the tube from Ealing Broadway up to Southall and loop round to Brentford and Twickenham

The tram would so not have been built by now. It'd be years behind schedule and many times over budget.

Tram is just the 207 with less stops and unlike Croydon will not use an old railway line. It's slower than the bus in the open urban areas.The Watermans is better than the Ricmond Filmhouse which is very small art house cinema and the Richmond Odeons are rather poor and very expensive.Far better is the Uxbridge Odeon and the Shepherds Bush cinemas although the Westfield Vue is again rather expensive.And Richmond has plenty of low cost parking at night

The filmhouse/Curzon in Richmond has no parking and seems to do OK. Small is perhaps best not multiscreens. With all the development along the Uxbridge road good public transport is essential and sorry to bring up an old argument, a tramway would have been wonderful ( and built by now)

Dickens Yard - across the road from Filmworks - will include at least seven restaurants and bars.  So how much demand will there be for yet another 11 restaurants in the Filmworks development, in addition to all the other restaurants already trading in Ealing Broadway and West Ealing?

Without parking it restricts the clientele to those who happen to live near a bus stop and route.It's not going to attract older people who will not want to endure a ride home with a load of inebriated revellers.I'm not that old, and always use the bus where possible, but coming home from town by bus is no longer an experience I'm prepared to put up with much longer.I fear the place will be just like that place in Finchley road full of faux theme restaurants and overpriced junk food.I really hope I'm wrong but there are too many precedents to be optimistic.

The proposed PictureHouse in Chiswick will also not be providing parking.

I don't see lack of parking as a problem, either, not in a town centre with buses passing along the Uxbridge Road every two minutes. People should be encouraged to go places by public transport, especially if they're going to be drinking.

I think this will all go terribly wrong.. and all we'll end up with is the obligatory so called "luxury" apartments and a Starbucks.

I think the days of the big multiplex are gone. Cinema audiences are dwindiling save for big blockbusters so I think 6 screens is about right. And its not centred one one activity, the restaurants, outdoor screen (for live sporting events? That would be cool) and performance space would make it a mixed use development giving it a better chance of success. I`m keen to see this go ahead as I think it would open up that part of ealing, its always seemed a bit awkward navigating between Bond Street and High Street. Just wish Ealing council could have packaged up more land for Land Securities to play with! Those shops by the YMCA are looking a bit shabby so to open up links with the main shopping centre would be cool.As for transport I think hopefully locals would get the bus or train, or walk(!). Ealing is pretty easy to get to and from, crossrails coming in to. Its a small awkward site to provide parking for and we need to be encouraging people to get public transport. I like it a lot, and wish it could happen tomorrow!

Saw the exhibition and like most of these it all looks a perfect utopia.But I think that one has to look beyond the gloss.I too think a lack of parking in this part of Ealing was what killed the old cinema and made this section of the Broadway a deadzone.The old car park behind the town hall used to be full when the cinema was still thriving. That's now gone.  So just where will all these diners and cinema goers come from?  The station is not all that near and going home late evening by bus or tube will still be the gamble it is now. Where will residents park?  In  other residents streets?And how will 11 more restaurants affect the restaurant trade in the rest of Ealing Broadway and beyond?Indeed, will 11 restaurants be sustainable?And exactly how big will the main cinema be? It looks rather small.If you want to see how it can be when they do get it right. Go to Uxbridge and the new Odeon Complex there.Cheap evening parking integrated with the complex and a superb main cinema and an Imax cinema as well as a shopping mall. It is the best bit of Uxbridge now.

Seems a good scheme - love the idea of a dozen or new restaurant sites and a cinema as well - eating is always a pleasure.

11 new restaurants are proposed.This surely is nuts.I couldn't see any details on the height of the development or the tenure mix of the new homes.It's a pity the new cinema won't be on the original site but tucked away in the middle of the site.Good pedestrian permeability and a very small, but welcome, community space.I hope I'm still alive in 2018 to see it all built.

Long overdue. It does look like a half decent development, but with no parking even for the residential dwellings. Not going to be easy to attract a wider gamut of visitors with already serious overcrowding on public transport especially the north/south services.I really hope the old front of the Walpole cinema does get incorporated back into the frontage in Bond Street where it belongs, that would be super.
