Undergroung loo in Ealing?

Was there ever an underground toilet in the middle of the road junction outside what used to be the lovely Bentalls store in the centre of Ealing?

I remember these loos and as far as I know they where never demolished when Ealing Broadway Centre was developed but still remain under the road at the M&S crossing.

yes there was. the cistern tank had a glass window.

"think in a way though it'd make me sad at some of the change!"It would. I miss the wonderful small independent shops that made Ealing a wonderful place to shop rather than just a clone of everywhere else.Some are still there, like Sayers Menswear, but they are disappearing fast.

Great picture! Loving the Guinness advert on the upper lhs wall. Oh how I'd love to transport back to that very day and have a walk round - think in a way though it'd make me sad at some of the change!

I lived on Oxford Rd 1977/8 and I'm pretty sure there wasn't one there then.

It was definitely there in the late 70s, as I hadn't been to Ealing previous to that

Yes, IIRC, on an island in the middle of Uxbridge Road.
