The advantage of a contract with British Gas is that they have lots of engineers and can cover holidays etc. with ease.If you buy your gas from them you can negotiate a substantial discount on their HomeCare contracts. The 'list' price for my contract is £31.00 per month, I pay £14 per month which includes a full annual service and safety check and unlimited parts and labour call-outs with no excess. This saved me quite a sum when the six year old (five year warranty) boiler 'threw a 'wobbly'.

Is it best to have a service agreement with British Gas or with the plumber who installed one's boiler?  Or should one have the regular service and emergency agreement with one's fuel supplier?

I'm running all the radiators in a four-bed, two-recep house off a combi boiler. Never heard that there was a limit, though they do come in different sizes and we got the big one.

I think it would be 3 -4k, and British gas would be nearer 5. It does all depend on what make you get as well, they vary a lot. I think there is a limit to how many radiators can be run off a combi boiler, or maybe I'm out of date with that info.

I was going to say 3-4k. Get a combi boiler which gives you unlimited hot water and does away with all the tanks. It's worth whatever little extra it costs.The Plumber on 01895441837 fitted our new combi boiler some five years ago and have been doing all our plumbing for 20 years.

All depends Gerry on what additional work is needed but I would guess £2-3000, it my be much cheaper if no additional work is needed.Worcester Bosch and Valiant are well known and reliable brands.

What's the going rate these days, to install and replace an existing gas boiler for space and water heating in an average semi of 3 beds, 2 receps and bathroom and sep downstairs toilet. Have had present existing boiler for nearly twenty years, but its showing signs of old age and constant use. And what's a really reliable brand to ask for these days please? Thanks.
