Actor Tony Robinson has been knighted, I'm told he once lived in St Mark's Road in Hanwell.

Why don't they just create a new medal The BPM British Political or Public Life medal. So we know just why someone gets a gong.Far too many old pals and freemasons and sorts getting gongs and not enough for the real people who work tirelessly avoiding the spotlight.It's been like that for generations. In a superb book I've just been given How Britain's Railways won the war, a train crew saved a burning munitions train from a nuclear scale catastrophe. Risking their lives and one losing his life.Who got a medal? or indeed a knighthood? Not the deceased, not the survivors but the line controller...who was at home at the time.That was in WW2. Fast forward to 2013 and it's TfL managers, Medals and Knighthoods a plenty, but rather little for those who do and did the real feats and work.

Actually, Elizabeth was awarded the BEM not the OBE - nevertheless, she deserves any recognition for all the work she's done in Hanwell.

Agree - Elizabeth Gammon has done and is continuing to do good local work for charities, bless her - well deserved Elizabeth. And tireless work as Chairman of AgeConcern Hanwell.

Perhaps these awards ARE political (and I certainly think they should re name them and lose the ‘British Empire’ bit) but, to be fair, Tony Robinson has been an avid and passionate supporter of many causes including healthcare for OAPs, human rights in Burma, and many issues to do with culture, the arts and heritage. Originally I posted to point out that the other one – Rowan Atkinson – used to live in Hanwell!

It was political, Tony Robinson has held a senior position at actors' union Equity and joined Labour Party's National Executive Committee as well as presenting Time Team.

More importantly, Elizabeth Gammon who lives on Southdown Avenue has been awarded an OBE for her tireless work for local charities.

Right first time Viv...Baldrick is a knight of the realm.God only knows why he was chosen...he's hardly Larry Olivier.The whole congratulatory system is rubbish anyway.
