Food Standards Rating in Ealing

Hi,Today's article in Ealing Today about Mumbai2go prompted me to post the FSAs useful web tool which shows you their rating for all the takeaways and restaurants.http://ratings.food.gov.uk/enhanced-search/en-GB/%5E/w5/alpha/1/%5E/%5E/1/10/10The one that surprised me was Pizza Express in Ealing (see above link)which only scored 2, stating improvement necessary (same score as Mumbai2go).Any surprises from places you frequent?

Record keeping forms an intrinsic part of the inspection and rightly so.As example, when was this meat purchased? From whom? Where are the freezer logs? The paperwork forms part of the essential 'audit trail' should things go awry.

The ratings cover more than physical hygene,The Hotel Inspector Ruth Watson was given just one star out of five for food hygiene at her hotel The Crown and Castle in Suffolk, she demanded a re-rating but inspectors were obliged to wait until at least 3 months after the one star inspection. The hotel has now regained its five star rating for food hygiene standards.The poor rating was the result of lost paperwork rather than any problems with kitchen hygiene, the hotel said.

Maybe they put it somewhere hard to see, but a restaurant in Northfields with a rating of 1?  Surely not, it's against the law isn't it?

That is my concern - a 2 for Mumbai2go due to cockroaches, god knows what a 1 equates to.I guess it is possible to to eat in somewhere that requires major improvements without getting ill but who in there right mind would knowingly take the chance once armed with this especially with your kids? I've noticed many of the restaurants with 3 and above display their rating - funny that those with 2 and below don't.

What do the ratings actually mean? A number 2 rating states improvements necessary how bad is that then? At what number is a place closed down? A number 3 is satisfactory so what makes it a 2? could it be something like no hand soap in the toilets? I think someone said Mumbai 2go got a rating of 2, but that place was alive with cockroaches so how bad is a 1? I never noticed that momento was closed, although it could have been, I only pass it during the day.

Yes Paul, I would be extatic to have bugs crawling over my food, obviously...what is their address and what dishes would you recommend as you have eaten there may times?

If you are happy with cockroaches and god knows what else crawling over your food then you go eat there. I have kids and will not knowingly risk their health with somewhere that food health inspectors have classified as needing major improvement.

My wife certainly wasn't surprised by Momentos' 1-star rating. For years she's been moaning about their dirty windows. No smoke without fire, she'd no doubt say...

I was surprised by Atlantis on Pitshanger, scoring 1. What about all the other restaurants/take aways that are not listed? Some restaurants have 'awaiting inspection' beside them. But I've put a few takeaways in the search box but 'no result' comes up.

If you want a real 'shocker'. The very popular 'The Botanist' on the edge of Kew Green scored  0, yes zero, stars!  I've eaten there a few times and suddenly feel a little queasy :-)

Any newly opened 'eatery' with 'Poor Food Hygiene and Safety' has a real problem and certainly won't be getting my custom.The inspection was in November 2012, if they have improved why has there not been a subsequent inspection result published?

The highly rated Khushi on Boston Parade scores only one star as does the Corriander Leaf.
