Blah Lounge Northfields

Does anyone know if they have an alcohol licence, I passed on Saturday evening quite late it was crammed with youngsters, blaring music and tables and chairs on the pavement with people both inside and out drinking bottled lager ?, just seemed strange as the spinning wheel closed due to the loss of the music licence.

It is called Palm Island and is definitely a shisha joint - see link below. It seems slightly out of keeping for the area so don't think it will do that well in Northfields. http://www.palmisland.co.uk/

The property was up for sale for quite some time, very cheaply too, Blah had a rolling tenancy of 3 monthly renewable terms, so presumably the purchaser or tenant have decided not to renew, the masts on the roof generated a very healthy annual income far higher than the rental for the ground floor and basement.

Well, looks to have closed down. The shutters have been down each time I have passed over the last two weeks and there is a large 'SOLD' notice affixed to the wall.

My niece was at said event going on till "3am", I picked her up, the whole place was shutting and it finished BEFORE midnight.It was an 18th Birthday party and a private event, with the premises rented out fully to the parents of the girl. As for "club" music being blasted out, I could only just hear it from the road as I drove past. It's no wonder this side of London is entirely culturally dead when it's full of the types of people who complain at the first sight of young people having fun. It was a perfectly safe, contained environment, nothing was outside of the law in this situation.

The reason why Ealing Broadway is dying in this regard is precisely because it has been subjected to the most vociferous long-term objections from NIMBYs of the first order who object long and hard to *ANYTHING* and have done so for very many years now.

Just to let you know that Cllr David Millican raised the Blah Lounge with various enforcement functions within the council on behalf of the Northfield councillors on 28th May.  There is no alcohol licence for these premises.

You take a risk living anywhere in London - I accept that But why should you have to put up with a change of use or previous standard operation of a place? If you buy a house next door to a pub and a year later the pub decides its going to take a new direction and have Hells Angels bands on with an extended licence till 3am why shouldn't you object?When I lived in Northfields I chose to do so because of the vibrant Avenue and when Jacksons had the odd late night do it didn't bother me at all. In fact I enjoyed it. However if it had decided to become a nightclub I'd of been up in armsI don't understand our council - Ealing Broadway used to have thriving places such as this yet it's slowly falling on its arse. This is the area they should be and only a short hop from Northfields..... Direct them there Councillors!!!!

As I said before the noise aspect doesn't bother me in the slightest, however young kids gulping down bottles of Budweiser does. I doubt very much if the noise and late nights will last long as the whole property is sold subject to contract, with planning permission for the two upper floors to residential use. Blah lounge are operating on a 3 monthly renewable low rental tenancy (all available on the estate agents website) it just concerned me seeing lots of youngsters in that environment.

Sorry Tony but you're completely missing the point. We have no objection to people operating withing regulations and guidelines. I don't complain about aircraft noise but if planes started to fly all night so I couldn't sleep, which is outside of regulations, I would. These laws exist for reason!

Sorry, but this attitude gets my goat.So, because, as Gerry says, you choose to live somewhere that is noisy it is everybody else's fault.You knew (and if you didn't you should open your eyes before you buy somewhere) the character of the immediate local area before you moved in.And of course you had the luxury - you had the luxury to go somewhere quieter in the first place but then that wouldn't have been quite so convenient for those aspects of the marvellous local Northfields culture that you *did* want to access would it?Cake & eating it etc.It's the same kind of attitude that denies the guy next door the occasional party as well.I've even heard of people buying a property near to the railway line and then complaining about the trains!(Or buying a property in West London and then complaining about the planes...)Go figure!

Gerry - of course we expect some noise. But this is a case of premises being used outside of regulations - noise, planning and licensing. The council have confirmed to me that Blah do NOT have an alcohol licence and nor is there an application for one. In terms of noise, this was not normal cafe noise but full-on club music pounding out till gone 3am which again they would need a licence for. As for moving somewhere quieter, not everyone has that luxury and it's a fact that London is overcrowded with both residential and commercial premises co-existing cheek by jowl. The housing shortage, which has forced the government to allow office premises to be converted into residential premises, will mean even more people will need to live alongside such places.

Came back after midnight to see Bluergh Lounge or whatever its called, full of local youths pretending to be gangstas mooching around inside.. It was never going to attract the yummy mummy set now was it..

It's not a case of disturbed nights, Gerry what bothered me was the age of the kids in there on Saturday night necking bottles of lager, I grew up in the licensing trade and can sleep through a war lol

Sorry you're disturbed with noise at nights.If one chooses to live on or near Northfield Ave, then as its a main drag with lots of restaurants, coffee houses and drinking dens, expect to have some noise in the evenings. Or else, move to a quieter part of Ealing. Sorry your nights are less than tranquil.

Interesting comments.The previous thread on the Blah Lounge - "New Bar on Northfields Avenue" - was started in April and the consensus of comments was that it was empty every evening and would fold within 3 months max.How long has it been really loud into the small hours?

We live near Blah Lounge and have been disturbed by loud music and parties till the early hours. They have started to build an area out the back and have what looks like a bar area with 'shish' pipes in the basement behind shutters. If anyone else has been disturbed by activities at Blah please complain to both the noise and planning departments at Ealing Council.
